Can I download video streams to disk in OSMC?

I often download children’s programs from play channels to use off-line when grandchildren visit. They are downloaded as mp4 files using an application on Windows, which uses ffmpeg. Since ffmpeg is also available on Linux I wonder if there is some way to directly download the streams from say an SSH command line session in OSMC?
