[TESTING] Vero 4K / 4K + video improvements

Can you please send us the full logs?
Cheers

Sam

Ok so far my 10.2Gbps HDMI chipset in my processor.

Reporting 4K HDR as it should, more testing later.

Fresh install of [2018.07-1]OSMC_TGT_vero3_20180805.img
Test file: https://kodi.wiki/view/Samples - http://files.hdrsamples.com/downloads/hdr/Life_of_%20Pi_draft_Ultra-HD_HDR.mp4

Banding is seen in the sky at the start of the clip.

Installed test kernel as described at the start of this thread.
Banding is still seen in the sky at the start of the clip.

LG C8. Got constant ‘no signal’ on any HDR video. How to revert kernel to default (Sep’18 update)?

Can you try and change your hdmi cable first?
Can you let me know if you have an AVR in between things?

Can you upload a set of logs via My OSMC after you get a black screen?

Cheers
Sam

Certified 18Gbps cable, AVR connected to TV (ARC mode sound) so no in-betweens. Vero connected to HDMI1 port, C8 ‘Ultra HD deep colour’ in ON, Vero ‘HDR auto switching’ is OFF. Video playback starts, TV shows HDR logo, black screen for second or two, then ‘no signal’.

echo 422,12bit | sudo tee /sys/class/amhdmitx/amhdmitx0/attr solves problem, but it’s not what i hoped.

Logs will follow shortly.

Thanks — those logs will help

What AVR do you have?
If 422 is working it sounds like there is a potential bandwidth limitation somewhere in the chain.

Does a direct connection to the TV as a quick test fix things?

AVR is Denon AVR-X3000 (in ARC mode because it lacks 4k HDR). Without AVR (TV sound) there is no difference, same behavior.

4:2:2, 12bit is ~9Gbps, 4:4:4 10bit is ~11Gbps, not a big difference.

Vero is connected directly to TV.

I have added instructions to revert to the OP.

Could you test echo 44410bitnow | sudo tee /sys/class/amhdmitx/amhdmitx0/attr for us, please?

Same thing, ‘no signal’.

Thank you. Have you got another TV you can test this on? Just to see if this is something unique to the C8.

And can you confirm that you are able to play HDR material with the current release of OSMC - are you currently using the auto HDR feature or setting echo 444,10bit?

Have no access to another HDR 4K TV, sorry. I can confirm that now I can play HDR material with ‘422,10bit’ and ‘422,12bit’ forced settings with no visible banding. I will try some more HDMI cables in a very few days.

Thanks again, but just to be clear is the problem with 444,10bit only on this test kernel or do you get a problem with that with the release kernel?

Any feedback on the logs I posted ?

Haven’t had a chance to check this yet.

With the test kernel, am I still supposed to have either auto HDR feature enabled, or echo xxx,10bit into attr ?

No – you should disable these options.

Ok, that was the config when I tested, and produced the logs: no HDR feature, and nothing explicitly written to attr.

Let me know what I can do to get this working better. Would love to not have to switch over to DLNA/TV player to watch 4K HDR 10bit.
