This has been discussed at large: 4K content mastered with bt.2020 color space has to be converted to bt.709 as well as there has to be a conversion of HDR → SDR (as most 4K rips are in HDR), if the screen/projector can’t handle bt.2020 and/or HDR. There’s no standard for doing all of this and therefore not all results might be pleasing/perfect.
Thought I’d report an oddity - and it may well be Kodi/AMLogic related, not Vero 4K specific.
I don’t think UHD content original colour space is being properly handled.
I have a 2160/59.94p 8-bit 4:2:0 Rec 2020 video, and a 2160/50p 10-bit 4:2:0 Rec 709 video.
When I have the Vero 4K in default mode - where 10 bit video is output at 8 bits both videos are played back with Rec 709 colour gamut/space flagged and output 8-bit.
(In this mode 2160/23.976p 10-bit Rec 2020 PQ ST.2084 HDR content is…
I have A LG 4K TV with no HDR, and I recently tried out some 4K HDR videos and they are too dark compared to my normal 1080p videos. I am wondering if this is because my TV doesn’t support HDR.
Is there any way I can play 4K videos and not use HDR so that the brightness is normal like my 1080p videos? I would like to enjoy the 4K quality without the darker brightness.
I have a Panasonic plasma (P55VT50). It has been professionally calibrated for Rec.709 video. Anyone familiar with this display will know that it has the best black levels (other than the newer VT60s) available, and it’s easy to see the difference between black and almost black. Likewise, slight color differences are fairly easy to notice.
My Rec.709 test files were remuxes of the BluRays of The Bourne Identity and Iron Man. For Rec.2020/HDR, I used remuxes of the UHDs of these discs. Alth…
Have looked through some older posts, but wondered if anyone has had success in playing 4K mkv files in a 1080 system. I have some files via latest functionality added to makemkv. Via the Vero 4k, playback is fine in terms of motion/resolution, but image is a bit bland. I think the colour is roughly ok, but everything is a bit dull, lacking in brightness/contrast. Here are a few parameter values in case that helps (kit downstream of the Vero is a Marantz NR1603 AVR and a Panasonic 1080 TV):
