Thanks everyone, system-level mounts fixed the issue! Tried both NFS and SMB - makes no difference.

Another vote for autofs.
While I don’t use it at the moment the flexibility it provides is great, particularly being able to run scripts and return dynamically generated mount points on the fly (with a wake-on-lan thrown in for good measure if the mount point relies on a sleeping server).
I have zero issues even for v high 4K bitrates using NFS so guessing its the 100Mbps ethernet port on your (older) Vero.
