3D Full SBS H.265 support

I know tanio99 mentioned trying to implement this in the kernel:

I have had limited success in trying to get 3D content that uses this format to play nice with OSMC, (initially using a RPi3 and now a Vero V). Handbrake reencoding is certainly not ideal, so I was wondering if any headway has been made in this admittedly niche topic?

I think I know what the issue is, but I haven’t had time yet to look into it, sorry :frowning:

Just grateful that it is still on your radar. Thanks!

Thanks, it’s on my radar, yes  . I’m just busy doing other things …

Thanks for looking into that. I have quite a lot of x265 Full-SBS files and I have to use my old Zidoo player for that. Would love to switch 100% to Vero V.

That support will come with the new 5.x kernel. And don’t ask me when that will be, I can’t answer it  . My plan is to rework the whole 3D related code for the new kernel to also solve the other open 3D related issues. And since it’s a lot of work I’d like to do it for the new and not the current 4.9 kernel.

No hurry. I am very glad to hear this will happen in the future. I can wait. Thanks a lot for your ongoing work and support.

Sorry, i also dropped out of this discuss because i was busy hunting down FullHD 3D support for my new projector (XGIMI H20 Max). Luckily, that one does now work well. And it also supports Full-SBS up to 60Hz, which is not only useful for Windows 11 gaming, but would also be useful with OSMC Vero V, when playing back videos recorded for example with the XReal Beam Pro. That one at least records with 30fps at FullHD SBS. And there is a good amount of videos from that camera on youtube as well.

Meaning: would be great not to only be able to convert 3D SBS into FramePacked @ 24Hz, but also be able to support other frame rates. Higher than 24fps is not specified by HDMI forum, but i am pretty sure those newer projectors do also support that Frame Packed, given how they support SBS and TAB up to 60 Hz.

Of course, playing back Full-SBS as Full-SBS would be fine too, if not preferred. (3840x1080 or 3840x2160).

Oh, and of course the codec for XReal Beam Pro and likely any similar 3D video cameras is h265, not h264. So if conversion of h265 full-sbs to frame-packed would be a SoC issue/too-much work, then of course simply playing it back unmodified and just making sure OSD knows it’s 3D might be the easier option…

The Vero supports whatever the equipment attached to the Vero says is supported. If e.g FramePacked @ 480 Hz is supported by your device (stored in the EDID), then the V will add it to its supported resolution list. If that really works out at the end is a different story  .
