4k movie not playing properly

Did you test that Ethernet actually resolves the problem as requested?
It looks like a bad rip to me with a lot of discontinuities. If you can provide me with a sample file that reproduces the problem I can investigate

I’m not able to check with an ethernet cable at the moment, since my router is atleast 50~60 feet across the room from my tv. I’ll try to go out this weekend and get a large 100 feet cable to test the suggestion.

It’s a large 50gb file, so i doubt I can get a sample of it.

You can pull a sample from MKVToolnix or a similar tool.

If you find your issues are WiFi related, don’t worry. I’m working on some WiFi performance improvements which will improve things soon. You only really notice this on high bitrate 4K movies.

Sam

Oh that’s great to hear, I look forward to trying out the update

I put the movie on a micro sd and it played fine.

I guess streaming 4k over wifi will not work for me :frowning:

I had a look at WiFi and noticed that under circumstances the connection could drop, which could have caused your buffering problems.

I’ll have a solution that provides the best possible WiFi performance shortly. It should resolve this issue for you.

I’ll let you know when it’s ready for testing.

Sam

Ok thanks.

Did my logs help identify this issue? I’m curious

They didn’t (but logs are always appreciated), which is why I can’t confirm that the improvements will certainly resolve your issue. However – as you remarked that playing back from local storage improved things, I suspect they will.

Another user found an issue when running an iperf test. I’m building some fixes and will let you know when I have something for testing.

Sam

Made a few improvements to WiFi performance which will be in the next update:

Dam that looks great! I can’t wait to try it.

That will work only if your AP can sustain the speed BTW …

So I got my 100ft ethernet cable and it plays fine.

There is a slight buffering right at the beginning of the movie but it plays fine afterwards.

I’m still looking forward to trying out the wifi update.

This is also improved in the next update

As @Smurphy notes, it may not resolve your problem if you are too far from the router or have other issues with your WiFi connection.
