Accessing files from a Windows workgoup

Just bought a Vero4K+ because the old PC is not up to displaying new encodes in the TV.

I have movies stored in an aging Windows 8.1, using my TV as monitor. The files are shared in old style windows workgroup with fixed IP, and a docking station with several more HDD. I access them from several PC in the workgroup around the house.
I can not understand the references in the forum about ways to access the files in my network. Is there a tutorial for doing this? I just want to view the folders and files to start playing the videos. Have no need for cover art browsing or fancy interface.
Thank You

You can add via sources → Network → SMB, but that is not as performant than mounting it via fstab/autofs

Thank you
I’ll start right away to read. hopefully I’ll undestand it this time
I guess I have to open a command prompt interface. Never before have used linux.

Well the first method I wrote above you can do via the GUI.
But for the others the command line is used.
SSH is the easiest option.

Details regarding how to access the command line interface can be found here on our Wiki: Accessing the command line - General - OSMC
