I am trying to download an addon but when I try and enter the address of the addon as soon as I type h for https I am asked to install PVR. I have no idea as I do not need PVR but I did as I was told and cannot find PVR IPTV Simple Client.
I was using the keyboard but it appears I can enter what I need if I use the remote so all is well but why can I not use the keyboard? I only use it occasionally so I may have missed something, if so please forgive.
Hi Sam,
This is for feedback you understand, not to complain and thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately I have completed all the setup using remote and put the new Vero in place, replacing my 4K+ so no keyboard for time being. I usually access using ssh once in position. Next time it is pulled out I shall send more details. I certainly have no relevant addons.
Regarding the remote, I have had trouble with the new system. Now the device is in the same position as the previous model below the TV the remote is very unresponsive from my usual seat and I have to get up and approach the Vero for it to work. I have put in new battery but this made no difference.
I assume the remote communicates using IR. Is that correct? if I assume the window is on the same face as the blue standby light which is facing the room. All I can report is that response is not as good as it has been on 4K+
In all other respects I am very pleased with the new device, it is so good I may need a new TV!

Budge.
OK, I had forgotten the remote was wireless. I am not sure if the 4K+ is but that worked fine with remote in exactly the same location. No USB3 drives within 2m and anyhow not on at present.
Networking equipment: a Netgear GS108T 8 port switch which handles all the local lan connections in this room. All 8 ports are being used so I guess the rf noise will be significant. I have moved the switch as far away as I can but all the lan cables are at back of TV stand. The remote now works a little better but I must find another solution as the remote is still not reliable. Is there any reason why the 4K+ did not have the same problem?
This would be a result of default Kodi keyboard keymapping which has “h” set as a global mapping to a “ActivateWindow(TVChannels)” action. I think there is normally some kind of logic to where the global mapping are not acted on when the virtual keyboard is active. Details would be needed to look into it further. I don’t think this is specific to OSMC though as that isn’t among the mappings we tweak for the OSMC remote.
Hi Sam,
Thanks for this. All I have in the USB port is an USB memory stick which I use from time to time.
I have moved the device as far as cables convenient and followed your tips, for which many thanks. I can live with the result without having to buy a dongle for now but better link me to where I can get a remote extension if needed please.

Budge
This “remote extension” would be just a normal USB extension cable that one plugs an external dongle into. Literally any should work as well as another as the dongle does not use a high speed connection and the cable itself picking up interference is not an issue. The goal is to just put a physical separation between the interference source and the remote control’s receiver. One might also find using a higher quality, or longer cable that is plugging into their USB 3 device can allow the internal dongle to work as intended as well. In that case the quality of the cable does make a difference but something special or expensive isn’t required. I did my testing using this cable that I picked up for under $8 USD off Amazon. It is just a generic that is sold under different names and it worked quite well…
