Any know issues with Vero V micro-freezing video on H265?

I have one Vero 5 setup and a couple of Vero 4K+ setups using the same source NAS and shared library over the same wired gigabit network. The V occassionally freeze frames the video (but not the audio) for a fraction of a second on high bitrate 4k/H265 MKVs. I don’t seem to see this on the 4K+ setups at all. It’s not reproducable either, so if I skip back and watch the section again it doesn’t freeze.

As close to a pattern as I can discern is that it happens on H265 where the bitrate is >90Mbs and there is a lot of action going on in the picture. …but as I say it’s not reproducable. It often happens in pairs, so it’ll do it a couple of time in a minute and then maybe not for 10 minutes.

Is this a known problem/are there other reports of it?

Haven’t seen anything reported here.

Are you watching on WiFi or Ethernet? Kodi v21 changed the buffering scheme a lot and we have made educated guesses about to handle it.

There are some borderline situations where this may not be correct.

I’m guessing the 4K+ and V aren’t in the same room, hence why I ask if WiFi is being used.

I’m sure we can solve it but will need a bit more info

Hi Sam,

Confirm as above, this is on a wired gigabit ethernet network. Note also that there is no disruption to audio playback, and it’s only the video that freezes (for a fraction of a second). As it’s intermittent and not repeatable it’s quite difficult to catch.

A log might give us some clues as to what is going on.

To get a better understanding of the problem you are experiencing we need more information from you. The best way to get this information is for you to upload logs that demonstrate your problem. You can learn more about how to submit a useful support request here.

Depending on the used skin you have to set the settings-level to standard or higher, in summary:

  • enable debug logging at settings->system->logging

  • reboot the OSMC device twice(!)

  • reproduce the issue

  • upload the log set (all configs and logs!) either using the Log Uploader method within the My OSMC menu in the GUI or the ssh method invoking command grab-logs -A

  • publish the provided URL from the log set upload, here

Thanks for your understanding. We hope that we can help you get up and running again shortly.

I’ll try and catch it if I can. and get back to you.
