Atmos issues

I just stumbled on this thread on the MakeMKV forums claiming that the problem is not the high bitrate, but an error in how the segments are handled. Look at this thread:

https://makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=17597&start=135#p90648

I have not tested this myself so I have no idea if it will fix the issue, or if it’s really even related, but it’s work having a look at. Maybe some brave souls could try his script to rip the audio.

Yep! I responded there. Sam alerted me to this. Sounds promising.

The question was whether we need to re-rip or if the remux can be fixed?

My guess is that since it’s using the segment maps that a remux won’t do it, you will need to re-rip. If I understand correctly it’s just ripping the audio which you would then use MKVToolNix to remux the new audio back in.

i.e. it will be a pain to fix, because doing each disc one by one… yet again. Bleh.

Still, a fix is a fix, if it’s a fix.

I’d try it if I could, but I don’t have a Windows system to test with, and his script is not Linux compatible yet. All you’d really need to do is rip the audio and re-mux that back into the existing rip you already have. Seems like it would be easy enough for someone to try that and let everyone know here if it helps.

Right, - I’m also a Mac user, so… Boo!

I’ll test this out with The Incredibles when I get a chance.

Downloaded the program and read the “read me” file which are very poor.
I don’t see how to use this on existing mkv files or the raw TrueHD file.
All the instructions look like they want to be demuxing the m2ts files by means of playlists.
Obviously I could do this with the original discs but people want to know if they can fix their remuxes right?
Well, if someone can help me out with potential command lines instructions for running this on the entire mkv or the raw TrueHD file (which is easily extracted with MKVCleaver) then I can make an attempt.

According to the guy/gal it won’t work on existing remuxes.

It’s worth a try, but they are talking about pops and clicks. The issue here is complete loss of sound for a second or so, right? Or maybe some equipment just reacts badly to a pop.

I assume they’re the same thing and different equipment does different things. My Denon 4300 loses sound for a split second during these issues.

The 4300H does the same thing every other equipment does that we know of: a complete sound loss for a short moment. So, definitely not a ‘pop’ or a ‘click’. But, of course, it would be nice, if it’s all the same issue and possibly solvable by a different way of ripping and muxing. :+1:t2:

Yep. So will be interested to see how this pans out!

How is this guy even viewing the TrueHD file.
Audacity says it can view TrueHD files with ffmpeg but I can’t get my Audacity to open my .thd file.
Anyone have any expeirence with opening TrueHD files in an audio editor?

Way beyond me. I’m in the process of re-ripping my Frozen II UHD to an unencrypted ISO. I know that one had glitches for me, especially during the “Into the Unknown” number early on, with Dolby Atmos/TrueHD.

I was reading the readme for this tool, and I’m at a bit of a loss of what I’m even supposed to do to make this work… I’m going to guess I need more input on what to do. I have MakeMKV, too, and will load the ISO on to my Windows box for this.

Ugh. Well that sucks. Back to square one then? Is this still a Kodi issue?

That’s what it looks like.

On the plus side I don’t have to re-rip all my discs. On the negative side, back to square one!

Bottom line is currently: if you watch a lot of Disney UHD movies and love Dolby Atmos, only use your original discs.

It looks like the person saying that the tool didn’t work was referring to a BD-A disc, not a regular Movie, so until someone tries the mlp tool on a movie we don’t know if it works.

EDIT: I see on the MakeMKV forum that it may not fix the high bitrate problem
