Atv 1 dilemma

i have recently been given an ATV1 by my grandson and want to put kodi on it. Sadly i have no working knowledge of how to do this!
i have tried to install OSMC via usb stick…its starts to run…but comes back with a message as follows:

install failed: can’t mount root

please can someone tell me where i am going wrong

Use another USB stick. Avoid SanDisk Cruzer
