so why does kodi on windows report 32 bit?

Do you use Passthrough on Windows?

i looked after posting, i do not

Afaik there is no Dolby TrueHD 32 bit, max. is 24 bit, isn’t it? So whatever is displayed on Windows, it must have another meaning, etc.

The answer is quite simple and I’m sure you’d have found out over at the Kodi forum as well: The infolabel is not outputting the file’s bit depth, but rather the bit depth the sink is working at - which is 8bit for passthrough on Vero and 32bit for PCM. This is also the standard on other platforms with the exception that Windows seems to handle passthrough with the sink set to 32bit as well - probably just a different way of processing audio than under Linux.
This is also the reason why I’ve never included this infolabel into the OSMC skin. It depends on the platform used whether the returned information is useful at all. And in most cases it’s not, so no point in using it.

But again: please refer to the Kodi forum’s skinning help section for questions which are related to the Kodi skin engine - which this one and the other one you’ve recently posted on our forum clearly are. Over at the Kodi forum, there’re not just more resources available to help, but possible bugs will automatically get to the right devs for consideration.
