Audio issues on Vero 4K

Hi,

A while ago I upgraded to Kodi 18 to 19. Currently I’m on the 2023.01-01 version. My Vero is connected via optical to my Logitech Z5500 audio set.

The issues I have, that I did not have on Kodi 18, are:

  • Sound goes out of sync slowly. It’s fine on the average TV show but during movies it becomes noticeable rather quickly. Pausing playback makes the problem way worse a lot faster. Stopping playback and restarting it fixes it temporarily.
  • Sound occasionally cuts out for a second. The problem is not the source file; if I play the same 30 minutes again the problem might not occur at all, or at wildly different times.

The audio set, while old, doesn’t seem to be the issue. My gaming PC is connected to it on direct input and that sound doesn’t cut out at all.

I’ve previously reported another issue: https://discourse.osmc.tv/t/dual-audio-on-hdr-content-with-kodi-19-4/ and I’m still using the workaround supplied by grahamh. Could that be related?

To be clear; I did not have any of these problems on Kodi 18.

Any ideas?

To get a better understanding of the problem you are experiencing we need more information from you. The best way to get this information is for you to upload logs that demonstrate your problem. You can learn more about how to submit a useful support request here.

Depending on the used skin you have to set the settings-level to standard or higher, in summary:

  • enable debug logging at settings->system->logging

  • reboot the OSMC device twice(!)

  • reproduce the issue

  • upload the log set (all configs and logs!) either using the Log Uploader method within the My OSMC menu in the GUI or the ssh method invoking command grab-logs -A

  • publish the provided URL from the log set upload, here

Thanks for your understanding. We hope that we can help you get up and running again shortly.

I wasn’t paying attention all the time but I did hear the sound cut out at least once, around the 32 minute mark. Sound was noticeably out of sync by then as well.

If you need any more info from me regarding this issue please let me know.

I’m considering just downgrading back to Kodi 18 as it didn’t have any issues. And that just feels wrong.

Should I expect some support at some point? It’s pretty annoying and I’m considering downgrading to Kodi 18 as that had 0 issues.

If this issue is fixed in Kodi 20 I can wait for that, assuming that’s not too far off.

You should try the staging repository and see if you still experience issues.

You won’t need the HDR workaround anymore.

Not sure how I missed your post, sorry.

Are the instructions below still accurate? I did that, it seemed to update a bunch of stuff and rebooted but I’m still on 19.5 (and still have the HDR audio issue).

To test this update:

  1. Login via the command line
  2. Run the following command to add the staging repository:
    echo 'deb http://apt.osmc.tv bullseye-devel main' | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/osmc-devel.list
  3. Run the following commands to update: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade && reboot
  4. Your system should have have received the update.

Please see if the issue is resolved.

I also recommend you remove /etc/apt/sources.list.d/osmc-devel.list after updating.

This will deactivate the staging repository. You can do so with the following command:
sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/osmc-devel.list.

Please note that we will automatically disable this update channel after 14 days on your device in case you forget to do so to ensure that your system reverts to the stable update channel.

Yes

That is expected. The next Kodi release is not in public testing as of yet.

Well both the double audio with HDR content and the sound cutting out issues are still there.

Can you post so I can see if you updated properly?

Post what?

Probably logs again, the process is detailed here

Thanks for your patience.

The first thing we will check is why the fix isn’t working as expected for you. Then I’ll get back with an updated build.

Can you try updating again? This should fix the original problem that you reported and you don’t need to use the workaround anymore.

Thanks

Sam

Heya,

The double-audio thing on HDR is indeed fixed now.

I’ll check the sound cutting out tonight.

The sound cutting out for like a second still happens.

Okay, so one problem is solved,

Can we get some fresh logs where you reproduce the problem.

I know this sounds tedious but we always need logs from the last update.

Cheers

Sam

The sound cut out at least once, not sure on the timestamp sorry. The issue seems totally random so it’s a pain to reproduce. Sometimes it happens several times per movie/tv show, sometimes it’s just fine.
