Audio/video out of sync

I’ve had the same issues for some time now. Looking forward to an update!

@sam_nazarko - hi Sam can you confirm that this patch was reverted please?

The patch has been reverted in Kodi Jarvis builds, which will be made default soon when the stable version is released.

Sam

@sam_nazarko hi Sam, has this been reverted?

Hi

Yes – this has been reverted for some time.

Sam

Hi Sam

I have noticed he same audio sync issue on my Vero 2 when playing mkv video.

The above linked patch changes AESinkAUDIOTrack - how is that in any way related to linux? It’s the Android Audio sink.

Yes. You are right…

This post was for the Vero (original). If you make a new post in the Vero 2 section I can help you

Sam

@sam_nazarko I have only just managed to test this out. Unfortunately I still have a sync issue across all my media. I have to set a delay of 1.075 ms, I may have to tweak this value.

Any ideas? The time this manifested itself was when you put the patch in. I know you said you reverted it but it doesn’t seem to have made any difference. I did not experience this issue prior to that patch.

There is little more annoying in life than lip sync issues. It detracts from the enjoyment of watching a film as you are constantly analysing if the sound is in sync. A 1st world problem but a problem nonetheless.

Hi

As fritsch pointed out, the patch makes no difference, so it wouldn’t cause problems, in or out, for iMX6.

If the audio is consistently out of sync, you could apply this offset for all videos. Has anything changed in your AV setup (AVR, TV, surround not enabled before, etc).

Thanks

I’m confused, why would there be a patch for Android done back in oct/Nov last year?

Anyway, the only difference in my setup is that i am currently not using any AV equipment so not using pass through just using the TV sound.

However, when the problem started I was using AV equipment and it started after the release I mention above so either the patch caused it or something else in that release.

I’m not in a position at the moment to use the AV equipment to do a direct apples to apples comparison.

However if the patch isn’t the cause then it shouldn’t really matter as the reverting of the patch wouldn’t have fixed my issue, right?

I dropped it in after seeing it in another tree but never tested to see if it made a significant difference myself. We can consider it placebo

Okay, that may explain the difference, and why we didn’t have many reports around the same time.

That’s correct. Builds with the patch and without should behave identically in terms of audio delay, or at least, this patch won’t be making the difference.

If you are always using TV sound (downmix?), and the offset is always the same, consider setting it as the Default for all videos.

Sam

That’s my point Sam. The delay was there when using AV equipment and when not. It appeared after the release I mentioned above. It is only recently that I have been using the TV sound. During all my chasing in this thread asking for the patch to be removed I was using AV equipment. It has only been since the end of Feb that I have been using the TV sound.

I’m still unsure if the delay effects all media in the same way. I had a much better experience prior to the release because I never had to touch the delay, it just worked.

Can you:

  • give me a MediaInfo output of a file you are playing that has the delay?
  • paste-log /home/osmc/.kodi/userdata/guisettings.xml

Sam

@sam_nazarko the paste-log is here: http://paste.osmc.io/efaboviwid

@sam_nazarko Hi Sam - did you manage to take a look at this?

Yes. Did you update?

We have done what we can for environments without AVRs that incur post processing

Sam

Thanks Sam I will update later today and report back my findings.

@sam_nazarko Hi Sam, since the update I can’t select hdmi as the output in the audio section. It’s greyed out and only shows spdif as the selection! So now I have no sound from my Vero. Can you please take a look at this as a matter of urgency?

Hi

I am sure that if this was the case for other users we would have received reports of it. I think that dumping your EDID would be useful here. For now you can downgrade your kernel:

sudo apt-get install --reinstall vero-image-4.4.0-1-osmc
