Automatic Audio Output switching HMDI1 and HDMI2

Hello everyone, I have used Mediaportal for years and am currently switching to OSMC. That’s all great so far, but I do have a question. I use a raspberry pi 4 and the question is: is it possible to tell the system that when watching TV, the sound is transmitted via HDMI1 and when music and videos are played, the sound is transmitted via HDMI2? The background is: My AV receiver does not support a resolution higher than Full HD. Likewise, he cannot pass through either. I connected the HDMI1 port to the TV and the HDMI2 to the AV receiver and can tell in the system settings where it should play the sound. However, I have to do that manually. Is this somehow automatic?

Hi,

I was a long-time active MediaPortal user with my own HTPC device (started in 2006) and switched this year to OSMC & Vero V. Discovered that the support of Sam and his team is second to none, in addition to providing a state-of-the-art device that my family finally also understands…

I don’t know if it’s my place to help (if not, a moderator can delete my reply) but have you already tried the Audio Profiles add-on?

This may be the thing what you are looking for.

nb. Since this is my first post, I learnt that I will need to respect a long timeout before I can place another reply. In case of a question, please do not see my silence as ignoring you.

I have changed this for you.

Unfortunately this isn’t possible, at least at this time.

I thought this was the type of thing @pkscout 's Audio Profile add-on that Carlo_V mentioned was intended to do.

I don’t believe it’s possible on Pi with DRM currently. Kodi only handles one output.

Audio Profiles can, as the name suggests, switch between a bunch of Kodi settings on certain triggers, and it can tell the difference between TV shows, other videos, and music. So if your hardware supports using two HDMI ports simultaneously, then Audio Profiles should be able to handle it. Audio Profiles really just saves a bunch of Kodi settings so it can reapply them. I can’t speak to Sam’s point about the DRM and multiple HDMI ports.

Have you tried using an HDMI splitter?

That might get you what you are looking for.

Hello guys, I’m sorry that I’m only getting in touch now. Had a lot to do with the thing since it’s different from MediaPortal. Anyway, it works very well so far. Unfortunately the sound doesn’t work as well as I would have liked. If I want to watch films and the sound should run through the amplifier (HDMI2), then I have to switch on the amplifier before I switch on the OSMC. Otherwise I don’t have the choice of port. If I then want to switch back to the TV (HDMI1), it doesn’t work and I have to restart. It looks like I need either an HDMI splitter or an amplifier that lets the HDMI signal through even when it’s off.

Nevertheless: Great software and great support from you! Thank you!
