Hello everyone,
this topic has been raised from time to time but never fully answered. In any case, I can’t find an answer
Is it possible to temporarily boot OSMC or another OS via SD card on Vero V since the device is completely open? If so, how? It’s not about a new installation, but simply about booting a temporary OS.
Thank you,
Hannes
Vero V can boot from an SD card or USB stick, hence how the re installation process works. But there aren’t other operating systems targeting Vero V hardware presently.
In 2020, we produced USB and SD bootable versions of OSMC for those that wanted to test the new kernel and video stack. This was a temporary measure however and the update system didn’t work as it normally does as a result of running on external media.
I know about the re install process but how could I boot an external image on SD card if I had one and would like to mess around?
You could set up a root filesystem to run off an SD card, but unless you know what you’re doing I don’t see much point in this.
We still produce USB/SD images of OSMC for Vero for internal testing, but they are not for production use. We will probably do the same for 5.15 testing.
It’s just for playing around.
So Vero V is checking the SD Card before booting from mmc? Will the test images be public?
Thank you Sam.
Yes, external media is checked first.
We are a while off such testing yet.
