Bug? Up Next derails Smart Playlist, random TV episodes no longer work, Up Next changed behavior

TL:DR - Post 21.1 update, Up Next is inserting itself into Smart Playlists, despite the “Enable in playlists” checkbox being deselected. V21 this all worked fine, my Smart Playlists worked. Specifics
as to whats changed, thkngs Ive tried, history, etc can all be found below.

Workaround: In Settings>Player>Videos>Play next video automatically, if you select TV Shows, Episodes, Movies (the content I am concerned with here), it will effectively override the Up Next add-on, and globally disable Up Next by taking over the duties of playing the next episode. This restores Smart Playlist function, as well as plays next episodes from files/library selections, but Up Next is effectively disabled.

Conclusion: With v21.1, Up Next (v1.1.9+matrix.1) has a bug: When “Enable in playlist” checkbox is deselected, Up Next still runs, which derails Smart Playlist functionality

Im out of gas here, this has to be a bug with the latest update. Please, someone save me from myself!

Vero V, Kodi 21.1 (latest update via OSMC).

I had Smart Playlists finally figured out and working fine in v21. I have a couple types, both set to random. 1 is picking a number of TV shows by directory and presenting them in a random list of 20, and the other is selecting just 1 TV show via directory and presenting 20 random episodes of that show.

I used to fire up any of tgdm, and they would present exactly what they are sulposed to. I choose an episode, and it would continue through the playlist exactly as it was presented.

Since 21.1, those same playlists now popup Up Next at the end, and instead of progressing tgrough the playlist as its supposed to do, it plays the next episode of whatever show I start on, ignoring the playlist entirely.

Ive tried enabling and disabling Up Next in playlists via the Up Next configuration check box, no change. Even tried rebooting after making the change, still behaves as described above.

I tried disabling Up Next entirely. The Smart Playlist simply stops playing after the selected episode amd goes back to a new random playlist.

I am completely stuck. This worked so perfectly i created ~20 Smart Playlists for vatious uses amd now none of it functions as it should.

I updated Up Next but i think it was current and juat reinstalled it, either way no change, Smart Playlists are absolutely broken for me.

I would be grateful for any and all assistance, im out of ideas.

Thanks,
K

EDIT: No, I didnt solve it. When performing the below actions (Player options, PNVA, add types) it appears to let Up Next kniw that the Player itself will be handling those duties, and it stops UpNext from loading up in BOTH the Smart Playlists (which then work as they should) as well as system-wide, so if instead of using a SP if I go directly to the Files or Library, TV Show, select an eposide, Up Next will also not show up there either.

I believe the issue is in the Up Next program. In Up Next settings>Behaviour I have the “Enable on playlists” checkbox deselected. It has always been deselected. Up Next should NOT be showing up during Smart Playlist running, but it is, and it takes over rendering the random Smart Playlist useless.

So I still am stuck…i guess i sorted a workaround of sorts but this shoukd wotk, i changed nothing here; worked perfect now not so much.

Any helo is still very appreciated, i am once again out of gas.

Holy cow, I just found the issue!! I just went into Settings>Player and the first item is “Play Next Video Automatically”. I thought “Yes…exactly…do just that…” but I actually selected it and one must select which type you want to do this!!! So I selected TV Shows, Episodes, and Movies (i have a Drive In movies random playlist too), OK, and IT WORKS NOW!! sooooo happy!!

I definitely never modified tbat setting before, wondering if in the latest 21.1 update that is either changed/added that option to Player, or perhaps whatever settings WERE there by previous default (maybe all enabled?) got wiped out with the uodate?

Either way Im super happy this is resolved, and figured Id leave it up with the solution in case it is a problem for someone else, maybe this helps.

Keep up the awesome work Sam and team, Ive been a multiple Vero owner for many years and wouldnt have it any other way, juat updated my last to V4s to V5s, SO nice!!

Be well all!
