I won’t lie. I didn’t know about this limitation either and only read it after Googling the symptoms.

SFTP should give you access to the whole root filesystem; particularly with sudo
FTP won’t. From the top of my head we only expose /home/osmc via FTP and wouldn’t expose /media.

SFTP will be awfully slow.

Yup couldn’t navigate to the external media.
