I’ve gone into event log in the system menu, when I hit enter on the open box icon nothing happens

Hello Scotty, Hope you don’t mind me piggybacking here but I’m in a similar position with Vero.
Like you I can connect with Rasp pi and Android box, but when I attempt to browse to a shared (windows/SMB) folder, Vero also tells me ‘Operation not permitted’
One of these folder asks me for a User/pass which doesn’t exist afaik. The shared folders are not all on the same pc, they’re spread over 3, 2 running Win10 and one XP. Its the XP one that wants a password.

To browser shares you would need to limit Samba Protocol to SMB1 which has been disabled for security reasons. Suggest you check up here

Thank you. I did read that. Maybe the info i need is in there, but its not so obvious to a novice. That it works in other devices to me suggests “it” is ok and the other side (Vero) is what needs attention. But If I knew what exactly what this is suggesting to do, I’d try it.
It’s very early days. Maybe what Scotty uncovers will help.

Yes, I agree the Vero needs attention. You need to enable SMB1 on the Vero as it is disabled for safety reasons.

I have changed the SMB protocol on the Vero to (0,1,2,3) none of which has solved my connection problem.

I have also allowed SMBv1 on my computer which is inadvisable for security purposes and I still cannot connect.

Personally I would disable SMB1 again and switch to use kernel based mounting (e.g. via autofs) as it is more stable and performant.

I bought the Vero because it was supposed to be fool proof and wasn’t expecting all this extra frustration

Set both devices to smbv1, reboot both devices, give them several minutes to locate/negotiate with each other.

We’re happy to get this working for you.
Unfortunately SMBv1 is largely deprecated (or at least should be) since May 2017; so you will find the same issues with other new devices.

If you do need to use SMBv1 for the time being, this should still be possible.

More than willing to lead you through the steps that are necessary if you are interested.
But you can also stick to your current approach. As long as both devices are in the same LAN segment and SMB Client is limited to SMB1 it should see the SMB share
