I just received my Vero 4K+ this morning, set up and updated the software. I’ve 5TB powered HDD connected to the Veo USB and I am outputting video using the supplied HDMI cable to my 55 inch LG CX.
Everything is running nicely but for some reason I cannot get UHD files to run above 24hz.
There doesn’t seem to be an option in system settings for UHD @ 60Hz.
I apologise in advance if I’ve overlooked something simple, its my first time using this type of media player i.e (newbie)
Also is there a way to transcode DTS soundtrack to DD 5.1 ?
Thanks in advance
Is it what was discussed here?
You may need to enable 4k50/60Hz (ie 3840x2160) on your TV. Often, not all the HDMI inputs support it. You should not need those 4096x2160 (‘smpte’) modes at all.
We recommend people with 4K TV’s set their user interface (UI) to 1080p. Kodi’s UI is not optimized for 4K yet and this can put unnecessary demands on your device and can lead to a suboptimal picture quality, as well as potentially cause other issues.
The settings we recommend are as follows…
Settings>System>Display>Resolution> 1920x1080p
Settings>System>Display>Whitelist> (empty) *
Settings>Player>Videos>Adjust display refresh rate> On start/stop
Some televisions may also need, or benefit from, the following being set…
System>Display>Force 4:2:2 colour subsampling> (enable)
With the above settings your UI will be output in Full HD and your 4K content will be output in 4K. *Information regarding the whitelist can be found here. If you have any doubt, feel free to upload some logs so we can verify that your settings are indeed correct.
If you disable ‘DTS capable receiver’ in Settings->System->Audio and enable ‘Dolby Digital (AC3) capable receiver’ and ‘Enable Dolby Digital (AC3) transcoding’ that should do it. You may have to adjust the Settings level (bottom left) to see those options.
I tried your suggestions but it didn’t seem to make any difference. The only way I could get 60hz was to set display resolution to 3840x2160 and add 3840x2160 @50hz and 3840x2160 @60hz in the whitelist.
Will these settings be a problem ?
I also noticed that 4096x2160 is only available at 25Hz in the whitelist so I’m assuming the Vero 4K+ can’t run refresh rates at this resolution higher than 25Hz ?
There are two possible problems:
- sluggish navigation and
- GUI resolution reverting to something unexpected when the TV is switched off
You really shouldn’t have to set the GUI to 4k if you have Adjust refreshrate set to On start/stop.
It can, but there seems to be a Kodi limitation or something. See the thread @fzinken linked to.
I can live with those issues, to be honest I’ll be using Kodi to get around the lack of DTS decoder in LG tv’s, I’ve no issues with the native video player on my LG.
