Change hostname

Hi guys, I know how to change the hostname.
I should edit /etc/hostname and /etc/hosts.
I have two questions:

  1. Will the change stick even after updating OSMC to a new version?
  2. Can we get an option in my osmc menu for changing the hostname?
I feel that it would be easier to link hostname and samba server hostname to the same string. But that’s just my opinion.

Yes, the change in host name will remain through updates.

Adding an option to change the host name through my OSMC is on our todo list.

You don’t need to change anything in the samba config - it will pick up the hostname change automatically after a reboot.

Sounds good!
I wasn’t aware that samba will pick up hostname automatically I just changed everything manually.

Thank you very much for your answer and all your work!

Is there any update on changing the hostname via gui?

or still via commandline?

Thanks

Changing the device name in Kodi changes the hostname. This was implemented over one year ago
