Choppy video

I am experiencing choppy video in .ts files using osmc (May 2, 2019 build) on a Raspberry Pi 2. Every few seconds the video jumps, as if a few frames were dropped. Audio seems fine.

This is a fresh install of osmc, with both MPEG-2 and VC-1 licenses enabled. The only addon I have installed in the mythtv pvr.

So far, I have only encountered the problem with recordings and live tv from my mythtv backend, but I have not done much testing with files from other sources. The problem persists when the .ts files are played directly from the rpi’s sd card, so the issue is not with the myth backend server or the network. All these video files play perfectly on another osmc system running on an rpi 3.

I would greatly appreciate any help with this.

Try remuxing a recording

Thanks, Sam. I don’t know how to remux a recording. Can you point me to a howto on that?

Frank

I found something strange that might be relevant. I removed the license keys from my config.txt, rebooted, and found no difference in the video playback. Further, “vcgencmd codec_enabled MPG2” indicates that MPEG2 support is enabled, even though the license keys are no longer present. Is it possible that MPEG2 support is broken on this device? How would I check?

Frank

Since two years (at least) the licence keys are fixed in the ROM after once activated successfully no need of them in config.txt afterwards.

Thanks fzinken.

This may be a long shot, but is it possible that the gpu firmware in this pi might not play nice with osmc? It is possible that I may have upgraded it for some previous project.

FWIW, when I moved the sd card from the problemeatic pi2 to a pi3, video playback was perfect on the pi3.

Frank

The firmware is provided by OSMC.

Load mkvtoolnix, add your file there and remux it.

Then look if the problem is fixxed, .ts container often have corrupt headers.

Thanks. Done. Problem still there in temuxed file.

All files play without issues on other devices, including laptops, desktops, and another pi. I’m beginning to think someting is not right with this particular pi.

Can you post a mediainfo? MediaInfo

Mediainfo was included in my original post. Here is the link: https://paste.osmc.tv/wawegacire.coffee

Please, try GUI->Settings->Player->Video->Adjust display refresh rate set to always or on start/stop.

Also, try GUI->Settings->Live TV->Playback->Fallback framrate to the appropriate frequency (but this only could have an effect for Live TV).

I think @Lostion meant a mediainfo of the remuxed file.

Settomg “Adjust display refresh rate” to “start/stop” and turning on “Sync playback to display” seems to have corrected the issue.

Thanks to all who responded.

Frank

Turning it on or off? The normal setting should be off.

Remux it without the subs:

Muxing mode : A/53 / DTVCC Transport

here disable that and it will be stutterfree i had the same shit when i ripped dragons den from CBC Canada it stuttert every second like crazy after i removed/disabled the subs it worked.
