Usually, cables either work or they don’t. A poor cable might give you sparkles on the screen or random loss of signal but I can’t think how it could affect the colours or banding. Sam is usually happy to replace OSMC cables that don’t work.
Yes, that’s what I though as well, they either work or they don’t. Thats why I initially thought it to be something wrong with my settings or the output from the Vero. I was a little surprised that it worked that well to be honest, so I plugged back the old cable just to double check, and the banding was back, so another cable definitely fixed the issue. I have to say though, I have not noticed it that much in regular video (movie) files, but that last demo video really stood out.
I’m just happy I found the issue
Happy to send you another cable if you’d like, but I’d also be interested in getting the other one back for testing as I can’t see why the supplied cable would behave in this way.
If it’s dodgy, it just shouldn’t work.
Thank you for your kind offer @sam_nazarko. I do however think I mixed up the cables when I tested, the Vero one is OK, the other one I have not so much, so no worries. I need a new one to my AVR anyway, so might as well get some certified high-speed ones once I’m at it. As for the colors, I checked again, it was placebo
Returning stuff from outside the EU is a pain in the ass anyway, maybe a Brexit will help
I would be happy to send you a cable regardless. The idea of getting something back to us was just to check things over as it didn’t quite make sense.
Norway makes up a massive amount of our userbase and customers. I believe that Norway spends more on OTT per head than… well… anywhere.
Whether the UK leaves with or without a free trade arrangement on 31/10 we have everything in place to ensure we ship smoothly to EU27 countries, just as we do the rest of the world.
I need to make a post outlining the situation re. warranties etc to reassure users that existing arrangements will be upheld
Cheers
Sam
Meaning you still have a colour banding problem, or you never had one in the first place?
Thanks @sam_nazarko. As I have done a lot of testing back and forth lately, I’ll do a more systematic test when I receive my new cables from Amazon, just to be sure I did not mess up any settings or other things in the heat of the battle It seems the Vero cable worked anyway, so you definitely do not need to send me anything, your good support on this forum is more than enough! Thanks again.
No, I don’t have a color banding problem anymore. I said previously that I thought the colors improved too, but it turned out that was just me being exited that the banding was gone
Nooo… f**k me. @sam_nazarko I found the actual problem. The LG TV would automatically turn off “Ultra HD Deep color” for the active input by itself for some stupid reason (and not prompt me), a bug that was apparently fixed in a firmware update. I just did update the firmware, and that was probably what fixed it then. I tested by flicking the setting on and off, and that certainly turned banding on/off as well. So never a problem with the cables… Arghh! shoot me now…
Can you let me know the model of LG TV and the firmware version affected? It’s going to catch out other users, so I appreciate the report.
It’s an OLED65C8PLA (European model number for the OLED 65 C8), now running the latest firmware 5.10.03. I don’t remember the exact version I upgraded from (it was 4.- something), and LGs changelog does not say anything (maybe its the “Minor fixes” part ). I just recall a post on Avforums mentioning this bug and firmware update when I googled, and surely, it fixed it.
Thanks for letting us know.
