Command Line Password Problem

Hello! During a recent issue I was having with the TMDB scraper I attempted to get to the command line to see what the scraper was reporting. However, when I tried to log in with the defaults it says I have the wrong username and password combo; osmc/osmc. The problem is that I never changed the password since I haven’t tried to get to the command line before. I hope this doesn’t lead to a factory reset.

Please help!

Thanks.
Rob

Hi,

well, there could be other reasons e.g. you’ve used the wrong IP address and connected to another device. But …

  • if you’re sure to use the right IP address
  • nobody in your household can remember having changed the password and know the new password

it is possible that your OSMC device has been hijacked or that you have malicious software installed on it.

First, check your router’s firewall whether it is active and not open ; port 22 in particular must never be open to access from the Internet.
And yes … it very sounds like you should re-install the device from scratch; don’t restore any backups after the installation.
