Confiiguring Wifi on Apple TV

I did the installer and everything went great! :grinning:
It seems to work great with a wired connection. I don’t have a Crystal HD card installed and have always used the onboard wifi. I tried looking around the GUI to see if there was a setting for it and could not find any. Is the internal wifi not supported? is there an additional add-on I could add to configure it. In the past with Crystalbuntu I used Netwok Manager in the programs to configure the wifi.

Please read the Wiki. Connecting to Wireless networks is well documented. The internal card may not be supported at this time however.

In the OSMC network config the only options shown are Wired and MySQL. I guess its not supported yet. Thanks. :smiley:

I tried my raspberry wifi dongle.
Wifi finds my router but (once directly and once iafter a wike) after activating i get an

332.993722] GPIO IN=08

Rtw_ps_processor===> rfstate:rf_on

That’s a harmless message. Are you having any issues connecting to WiFi? If not, ignore this.

Harmless? I m just making a fresh install and ll try once more but the system stops functioning. Also restarts end with the same error…

Allow me to reiterate: the message you have posted is not indicative of an error.

Please upload a full log.

Sam

Happened again restart ends up with a very unhappy smiley i’ ll try to find a logfile but that might take a while… Have to find the tricks user name and password and so on in the forum…

Check out the Wiki, stuff like usernames and passwords, as well as how to get console access is all outlined there.

here is a part of the output of sudo journalctl;

is there any way to use the internal wifi card? i dont own a wifi dongle and even if i do how could i use it when the usb port is used by the osmc usb loader stick?

on crystalbuntu it was possible to select it in network options

I found the problem with my wifi dongle. at first I thought the dongle did not have the correct write permissions. . So i tried chmod -w…and so on… Didn’t work. Today i bought a new usb card and… Works like a charm. So my€10 wifi dongle (Edimax WiFi-stick N150 Nano EW-7811UN) works fine. Now i’m gonna try the harddisk install and can try something new with my now free raspberry pi…

I have the same problem, all I see is “Wired” and “SQL”. What do you mean by “internal card”? Can’t it work with a wireless router like an Airport Express?

@hildy2mtl:

this addon/repo worked perfect for the internal wifi card to connect to time capsule / airport express on crystalubuntu for apple tv.

http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=130816

i don’t know if it works on osmc, probably it needs a update.

here you find a helix version of it: http://www.xilka.com/xilka/source/script.linux.nm1-1.0.3.zip

i am in the same situation like you, the author didnt say in it’s wiki that it is not working with the internal card. now i have a useless apple tv with omsc but no wifi and usb port is in use for the loader so i can’t even watch a movie from usb port. as the apple tv got only 1 usb port which uses the osmc loader i see no option to connect a extern wifi dongle.

i hope so much for a working internal wifi card addon in next release as in the link above

Most people have replaced the internal Wifi with the Crystal HD card, since the CHD is what makes the ATV1 capable of playing back higher resolution video.
Because of this, the internal wifi is currently not supported. If demand warrants it, it can be added.

Please make your want known in the Feature Requests area:
Feature Requests - OSMC Forums

This is normal, the Wireless Menu only appears when your card is supported by OSMC.

Please make your want known in the Feature Requests area:
Feature Requests - OSMC Forums

Please give full details of the make/model of the card/dongle you want support for when you post the request. Keep In mind that some hardware does not have linux drivers available at all.

The old network addon manager did not add support for the internal Wifi. It simply added an easy to use gui for configuring it within XBMC.

Wifi Adapter support has to added at the OS level.

You can easily plug a USB hub into the ATV. You can then connect both the USB stick with OSMC on it, and A WIfi Dongle to the hub.

I’ve got the USB stick and a Bluetooth dongle currently hooked up to a hub and it works fine.

The ultimate option, in my personal opinion, is to use a Wireless Bridge instead of a dongle.
ATV->Ethernet cable–>Wireless bridge–> Wifi network.
But this is overkill for many people.

As Sam said earlier in the thread, network configuration is covered in the wiki. Wiki - OSMC
If the wireless option doesn’t show up in the network menu, it’s because your Wifi Adapter is not currently supported.

I don’t own a ATV, but just wondering couldn’t you just use a USB Hub to connect more then one USB device?

ok right a hub wold probably work

anyways, i managed to install network manager 1.0.3 whch was for crystalubuntu which appears now in the programs section of kodi but it does not start. it seems to need a update.

so at the moment i feel just bad that i did uninstall crystalubuntu. wiki did not say that i have to buy a usb hub + extra dongle for wifi for a old atv

You don’t. You can use the internal adapter, but you might need to add the firmware for it. The driver should already be included in the kernel. Without any dmesg output, I can’t know for sure however.

Sam

sam: how can i do that dmesgoutput for you?

To upload the dmesg you would need to temporary get a network connection (wired).
Then you could use the Log Uploader under MyOSMC to upload the dmesg (ensure you have the respective entry ticked). When done you get an URL which you could share here.
