Control osmc with Android without network

I’ve set up OSMC on a rpi 3 with a hifiberry AMP+ for connecting passive speakers directly. This raspberry will be installed in a showcase object and will be used primarely on the road / on locations without a wireless network. I’d like to control osmc with an Android device and would rather not use wired or bluetooth controllers. Although the setup should be considered as stand alone an Android device with internet connection is always available. I was wondering if such a setup is possible? I could add a separate wireless router to the setup and connect both the rpi and the android device to it, but is it necessary? This is the most important part but as a bonus: could I also share the internet connection of the Android device with osmc and still control it?

Set up wireless hotspot with the Android device and connect the pi. Shouldn’t be an issue.
