Distorted colours

Hi, I experience distorted colours when I play this file. All is purple and greenish.
I watch a lot of 4k material but I have never experience any problem.

Yeah, you’ll need to find something that’s in HDR10, HDR10Plus, or HLG format. Dolby Vision isn’t supported.

Worth noting: there may be a solution in the future that fixes the purple/green issue when there’s no HDR fallback (DoVi 1 web streams).
The OSMC team is working on it.

Dolby Vision

As you know, we’ve discussed Dolby Vision and licensing details here for a long time. Dolby demand that hardware is licensed with royalties paid. We found some of these licensing terms to be significantly imposing and restrictive of our goal to be an open source media player. Dolby are also very involved in evaluating and testing that the implementation of Dolby Vision is correct. This would have been tested on the Homatics box under the Android TV environment rather than under CE. While the ef…

But that won’t give you DoVi, it will just correct the purple/green issue.
So it’s better to avoid such files in the future.

If you have a DoVi capable TV, like an LG OLED, the TVs built in player will likely play that file just fine.
If UPnP is enabled on your Vero and your TV is on the same network you could just play it back with your TVs player.
The easiest way to do this is to navigate to the title you want to play on your Vero and using the Vero remote press the “context menu” button.

This button:

Then in the context menu choose “Play using…”

Then choose your TV:

This will launch your TVs internal player and begin playback of the file.
From there though you have to use you TVs remote.

Wow! Thanks for that! It’s not without some drawbacks, though, at least on my Philips OLED:

• it doesn’t work with mkvs (known problem)
• when I stop the video I have to manually re-set the TV HDMI input to Vero
• audio volume always starts at an ear-splitting level
• no ARC/eARC possible

But it beats the clunky menu structure on the TV for finding videos to watch.

Yeah, mileage will vary on each TV.

My LG will read MKVs and it does Atmos over eARC.
My volume isn’t any louder but I do have to switch back to HDMI to get back to the Vero after watching the video just like you do.

My LG will read MKVs

I can play MKVs but they are not recognised as DV and decoded to RGB. That’s the same on my PC playing with the DV plug-in and seems to be common.

Update:

• I found CEC wasn’t configured correctly - now I can get ARC and that solves the volume problem
• returning to OSMC is as simple as hitting the back button on the TV remote after Stop
• some player functions are available using the OSMC remote but not all and there’s an annoying (invisible) confirmation dialog if I hit Stop on the OSMC remote.

I haven’t tried a dual-layer (Profile 7) mp4 file yet. Profile 7 mkv plays as HDR10 only.
