I lost (think it was hidden by my wife) my old remote for the Vero V. No issues, everything worked well before it went missing. Went on Ebay, bought another OSMC remote. Turned Vero on, got to the main page. Clicked and held the Home and OK button to pair the ‘new’ (second-hand) remote. Blue light comes on.
Doesn’t operate my Vero V. Gutted. Love the Vero V, but now I am not able to use it. I honestly am not technically adept, so have no idea how to access logs or open it up (as I have read some descriptions on here).
Main question is, should any OSMC remote (and I do see the Blue light), work/connect to my Vero V?

I’m not a OSMC-hardware guy, so I can’t with certainty answer, but this is from memory in general:
If you manage to pair the remote, it should theoratically work. But there were noice factors, with some generatoion of the remote/reciver device (don’t remember the details it’s above my paygrade). And some connected usb devices cable worked as a jamming antenna if i remembered correctly. My suggestion is try again to pair the new remote, while having just power and hdmi connected, to eliminate possible environment issues. I’m no hardware guy as I said, but distance to power cables, “splitters” ,wifi extenders/routers or other devices might also effect noice to signal ratio, if it’s the problem.

You can use any OSMC remote with any version of Vero (and many other devices) BUT the remotes and the receivers MUST be of the same generation. For the Vero V the internal receiver will only talk to a Vero V remote. To use a earlier revision of the OSMC remote you must also use the receiver dongle that it is intended to work with. If you got an older remote and did not get a dongle with it then this isn’t going to work for you. One note about using older OSMC remotes with a Vero V. When you plug a OSMC receiver dongle into the external USB port it will disable the internal receiver dongle to avoid any conflicts. If you later want to enable the internal receiver again you would need to unplug any external dongles and reboot the device.
The OSMC store sells the remotes by themselves. You also have lots of other options including using your TV remote via CEC or a universal remote using infrared.
Did the remote come with a receiver?
If so, plug it in and that should do the trick as @darwindesign says.
The fact that it didn’t pair suggests that the remote you purchased wasn’t the latest generation

I mentioned, genuinely, I am not a technical guy. I have a Sony Bravia remote. Could you explain what ‘CEC’ is please?
I think this is the issue, I’ll get an official one if I can’t get the ‘CEC’ suggestion to work….waiting for a reply

CEC is the industry standard/universal name for what Sony calls “Bravia Sync,” “Bravia Link,” and “Control for HDMI.” It is communications protocol that allows HDMI connected devices to talk to each other. If it is enabled in your TV’s settings (you can just do a web search for something like “how to enable CEC Sony TV”) then some of the buttons on your TV remote should forward to the Vero to control it. Which buttons vary from display to display, but typically you would have direction controls, select, and back/exit at a minimum to allow for basic control.

Further, I also noted the reply about Vero Remotes in the store. They only sell one, and I know the Vero V doesn’t need the USB dongle but the one in the store comes with one. I assume it will work with the Vero V and not need the dongle, but they sell it with the Dongle in case someone has a Vero 4K?

The way it works is that when the TV is switched to the Vero input some of the buttons work on the Vero instead of doing things on the TV. For example if you are looking at a Vero menu screen and you press the down button then the selection on the Vero moves down. If you press the menu button on the remote this will bring up the TV’s menu and when that is in view the down button then controls the selection on the TV’s menu. The TV handles the switch on its own.
The OSMC remote is capable of being used on many different devices so it comes with a dongle to facilitate this. This is the exact same remote as comes with the Vero V as all previous revisions have been discontinued. You won’t need the external dongle in your situation, but It is worth keeping it around in case the internal dongle ever breaks. An externally connected dongle can sometimes get increased range as well if that becomes an issue at some point.
