I checked on my Panasonic Oled tv that all the DV movies I play have BT709 flag. From my other experiences I would prefer that no flag, either BT709 or BT2020, been applied. Is it possible to modify this behaviour and that TV info reports “RGB complete” with no flag for DV movies?
Thanks.
Can you please show us a photo of what you are trying to achieve?
Are you talking about the skin or the actual data displayed on the TV itself?
You need to ask Panasonic.
In Ugoos I can use an autostart.sh and it works as expected. Tried the same in OSMC but it did not work. May be my mistake.
Autostart.sh content:
(
echo Y > /sys/module/hdmitx20/parameters/dovi_tv_led_no_colorimetry
)&
I’ve had a look at that setting in CE. CPM introduced it here: Dolby Vision for Minix U22X-J (Max) and Ugoos AM6+ - #871 by cpm - Development & Testing - CoreELEC Forums
What it does is modify the HDMI metadata. The only thing the TV needs to be told for TV-led is 8 bits, RGB and full-range (completa). There’s no logic in signalling BT2020 since the DV metadata is telling the TV in a different way what the colourspace is. Besides, BT2020 does not permit full-range video so signalling BT2020 colours with full-range is non-standard. How should a TV interpret this?
It seems users on the CE forum (yourself included) have seen a subtle difference in colour when the setting is changed. There’s no consensus on which is ‘better’ or which is ‘correct’.
If users think it’s worth it, we could add a setting to do the same as CE has. I for one wouldn’t be keen on that as it would be yet another variable to consider when troubleshooting.
Thanks Grahamh for the explanation. Anyway on my Panasonic LZ1500 I prefer BT709 which is the default that appears in OSMC. Same with CE. If you have read my comment there you know that I already expressed my preference for BT709 over BT2020. Thanks.
When we willl start testing Dovi Fel?
Why do you ask? FEL needs a J/K chip which Vero V does not have. Unless you have an idea?
I am asking because, when I purchased the Vero 2 months ago, Sam told me that they were working on the implementation of Fel by the end of summer. This is what he said to me:
I am aware of the Vero chip limitations but I believed in Sam’s words.
Thank you
I must have missed that.
The fact is OSMC has been looking into implementing FEL on Vero V (which should come as no surprise to anyone). This is not a straightforward exercise and it is early days.
There can be no guarantee that it will ever be achieved with the colour accuracy we would like to offer our users. The team is not prioritising work on this over making sure our existing solutions for DV Profiles 5, 7 MEL, 8 and 10 work as well as possible for all users.
