Dolby Vision LG G5 / Panasonic Z95B

Hello forum,

I need your help: I assume the LG G5 and Panasonic Z95B, so the newest generation OLEDs of these two brands, do support TV-led Dolby Vision, but it’s hard to impossible to find hard evidence. So, does anyone here have either of these OLED TVs and could help out with an EDID of their Vero connected to the TV to figure out which DV type is actually supported?

Help would be very much appreciated - I’m thinking of buying one of these two OLED TVs as my beloved VT50E has just passed away…

I was told you might have the G5, @WilliamG. Is that correct?

I’ll send him a text…

Yep I have a G5 77”. Supports DV via the Vero V no issue. How does one check which “type” you’re referring to?

Just post a log with EDID and we should be able to tell.

Sam

Thx for getting back to me!

If it supports it via the V, it’s supporting TV-led DV :+1:t2: But to know whether it supports both methods, only an EDID (logs) will help.

It will. LLDV is mandatory for DV Version 4.x.

Yep yep. Sent some logs in. Sam’s on it. All gibberish to me when it come to EDIDs.

That looks good indeed:

I have absolutely no idea if that’s good or not good, but I’ll just say I’m glad it’s good to you.

Also, glad to be of service!

TV-led Dolby Vision: DV_RGB_444_8BIT

Player-led/LLDV: LL_YCbCr_422_12BIT

So, both are supported :+1:t2:

Ahh! Superb, then.

Many thanks. For anyone watching, this is what we are looking for in the log.

VSVDB version 2 is the latest and usually corresponds to support for CMv4.x.
DV_RGB_444_8BIT means support for TV-led DV.

Hello all,

I’m about to purchase a Panasonic W95B screen, and want to check it can support player-led DV so I can play back Dolby Vision content from my Vero V. Is there any way to find that out from the product tech specs that it supports the two DV processes?

Cheers,

Tom

Not really, I’m afraid. I had to buy it to know… Only the EDID will give you a definite answer.

But you can pretty much count on player led support nowadays, if a TV isn’t dirt cheap and supports DV.

If you can find it in a shop where they will let you try it out with a Vero, you could check with System Info → Video. I understand Panasonic are pretty much just badging their cheaper models from a another manufacturer these days so the W95B could be very different from the Z95B.

That’s useful, thanks Graham. So, if I can find a store with a W95 on display and they’ll let me plug my Vero in, all I have to do is play back some content graded in DV and look for the flag/notification on the screen when it starts playing? Will the System Info > Video pane show that there’s a supported DV connected TV? I just want to make sure if I can make this happen I get all the info I need in one fell swoop!

System Info → Video will show DV and whether it’s LL and/or Std supported*. No need to play a video but if you have a willing shop assistant why not? You want to test it, after all.

* I think only the OSMC skin will show that

Another option is to make a WiFi hotspot on your phone and connect your Vero V to it in advance.

Head to the shop, enable the hotspot again and upload a log via My OSMC. EDID information will tell us everything we need to know.
