Dolby Vision tag now showing in OSMC skin

Since I remux most of my own discs (some I leave as folders if they seamless branch) I like to put the source in the file name.
For Dolby Vision UHDs I append [DV.UHDRemux] to the end of the filename and for non-Dolby Vision UHDs I just use [UHDRemux].
I noticed recently that the default OSMC skin is showing DV in the bottom left corner on recent titles I have scanned.
Is this behavior because it’s seeing the “DV” in the file name or is Kodi getting that information from the file itself like it does with aspect ratio etc?

Kodi is reading that from the file. It was introduced in version 21 IIRC.

Correct  HDR related info in our media flags is purely derived from the Kodi database, it’s not relying on file naming.

It is new with Kodi 21. If you have existing stuff in your library that has Dolby Vision you need to refresh the episode or movie to get the database updated. It will still play in HDR, but at least you’ll have a tag indicating that it has the Dolby Vision information in the file.

Thank you for the replies!

On a side note, is Kodi now grabbing object based audio too or do we still need to put “atmos” and “dtsx” in the file names?

I think you still need to have those in the file name. I’m scrolling through my library, and stuff I’m pretty sure has ATMOS is listed as Dolby-HD. Obviously you could try a couple without the file names and see what happens.

That’s an addition only Kodi v22 will offer. Info about this can be found here: Add support for identifying Atmos and DTS:X now that ffmpeg supports that.

Currently, 3D audio flags still have to rely on file naming.
