I bought the vero 2 first because my old pi was slow and second because I read:
With Vero, you can switch between Android and OSMC right from your
remote. Experience the best of OSMC and Android on one device and enjoy
popular Android apps right on the big screen.
I also found:
Android software can be downloaded and imaged on your own card from the OSMC website
That is good to hear. Could you specify, what âsoonâ means? Do you expect a release in days, weeks or month?
Furthermore I like to suggest to change the text for vero 2 into something like âAndroid software for your own card will be available on the OSMC website soon.â Itâs quite disappointing to get vero 2 and not to find any android image.
The root filesystem is done (it can boot from NAND) but we have still yet to get it to work reliably from an SD card which is our intended goal. I will publish a blog post when this is complete.
whatâs the return policy on vero2, considering I purchased this to replace my (working perfectly) pi2+osmc ONLY because of the android switching claim. Since this thead has been saying âin a week or soâ since february, Iâd say that was just blatant false advertising.
Iâm not trying to be a jerk- just saying that the website didnât say âweâre working on this,â it said it was a feature of this device. It is not. I have a roku (netflix, hulu, etc) and a pi2 (osmc) so I already have all these features. the selling point was âpress this button on the remote and youâll get netflixâ which sounds a bit misleading too if the device will have to reboot and wait for android to start. which is a bit concerning because every android phone Iâve owned has taken like 5 minutes to boot up.
ok âpress this button and you get netflixâ was a bit of a stretch it clearly doesnât say that, but I bet thatâs what other people will think too. based on a Vero1 + android thread I was reading I think other people thought this was the case even then.
Honestly I was hoping someone figured out how to basically hypervisor these two OSes at the same time so it really was just a quick switch, but I probably shouldâve done some more research before I jumped to all these conclusions.
what is your planned switch method? Is it a reboot to a bootloader and then I pick from the 2 options?
I am with you on this, I bought vero2 last week under the impression the android solution existed. I only found this thread after my purchase when it wasnât possible to boot android and run apps from my remote as advertised. I have no issue with stuff being a work in progress, but I do feel let down by the false advertising.
I totally agree with you on the false advertising. When I read the product description, I also thought that Android was an easy switch-over using the remote. I also thought that the OSMC on the Vero 2 was a more finished product, since it the flagskib device. If I had known, that it was a work in progress with the issues, I have seen, I would never have bought the Vero 2. So if sending the Vero 2 back and get a full refund was possible, I would definitely do it! Got it only 10 days ago, bit have been waiting for solutions on Live TV issuesâŚ
The Android release took longer than expected. As I said above, you are welcome to try it now on a NAND based installation. The SD card installation is taking a little longer â but we will update you when we have progress. Running Android off an SD card is quite tricky!
I have covered this on the forum elsewhere, but in short:
Go to Power Option in Kodi and select âReboot to Androidâ
I think most people will tolerate 15 seconds switching between OSMC and Android apps. We will make it possible to set a default âstartupâ app, so the most common app can be preloaded for a user.
Obviously we cannot anticipate every clip that will be problematic. However I believe the situation is now resolved and you will see an improvement in the next update. I did my best to respond to your issue as quickly as possible and have worked on improving Live TV playback.
