Has anyone tested a DTS:X Profile 2 file on the Vero V yet?
It’s essentially just DTS:X for streaming platforms, ie: Disney+, similar to Dolby Digital Plus with Atmos.
AFAIK, DTS:X Profile 2 has to be decoded on the source device and then be transcoded to a HDMI passthrough capable DTS:X container for it to be properly received and handled by an AVR. I’d be surprised, if our device did that correctly (basically by accident) like that… In fact, I don’t know of any device capable of doing this except a hand full of non-OSS devices like TVs and streaming boxes.
First of all: We’d need a sample. I’m on the outlook for one, but haven’t gotten my hands on one yet.
There’s some media links in this git hub bug report for android playback -
Not too sure about how to grab them (just yet). I can get the video but not the audio stream.
I managed to grab the audio and video separately of
https://secured.streamdts.com/dtsx/dtsx/hls/fmp4/callout/index.m3u8
and have remuxed them into this MKV.
Mediainfo thinks its QUICKTIME audio with 10 channels (?!)
Yup. FFmpeg obviously thinks the same and Kodi reports 9.1 channels.
I added your sample to the Kodi a/v wiki. Hope you’re okay w/this; if not, please LMK. Thanks.
FWIW I get no sound out of that clip on my ancient Yamaha. DTS X not supported but it doesn’t play as any fallback either.
I recall reading thru some of the GIT Hub debug report and there being issues or conflicts wrt MPEG4 video and audio synchronisation codes.
FWIW the video plays fine but there’s no audio, just silence on my Vero-V + Yamaha RX-A2A which supports the extant DTS codecs inluding the standard DTS:X (Profile 1?)
I used ‘yt-dlp’ to download the audio & video streams -
And remuxed them into a MKV using MKVToolnix
No audio here either. Have an Onkyo RZ50, which supports DTS:X & DTS:X IMAX. Also tested the sample using a S922X box and same result.
I think we need a more reliable source. I did look briefly at the DTS website, but nothing obviously on offer there.
Is this profile 2 the same thing which is mentioned in the audio setup guide written by @Chillbo, the DTS-HD HRA based DTS:X?
Surprised there aren’t samples floating around, similar to EAC3-JOC ATMOS. Seeing discussion on this from a year ago.
Good discussion, no samples :).
Nope, not the same. The “old” lossy DTS:X version was only used on a couple of UHD BDs, but never took off. Don’t ask me why. The new format seems a lot more limited… From what I can find, it doesn’t even offer sound objects, only hard coded 5.1.4 channels.
I can make a sample from copyrighted material, what would be a good length to keep it “fair use”?

Got a 1 minute clip.
I get no sound with or without “Allow passthrough”.
ARGH!!!
The clip I made with MKVToolNix changes it some how… see:

The results are the same even with the whole file though.
EDIT: For the record, this is an obscure format which I could care less about since I’m a remux guy but I was just curious since I stumbled upon this format and had never heard of it before despite it being around and being used by Disney+ for a year or so. So I wouldn’t waste too much time on it but if there’s a simple solution I’d be glad to help you guys test it and what not.
Well I get no sound or vision from either the 3 or 1-minute version, with or without DV support, with or without passthrough.
I’m out.
Edit: I have a bigger problem - no UHD video is playing on that box for some reason.
Re-edit: solved that. Getting just video now.
I get video just fine, DV if I have DV enabled and HDR if I disable DV, Vero V → Samsung HW-N950 → LG C8.
