External audio CD reader

Hi,

is it possible to play CD music from an external (powered) CDROM reader? I have tried today and nothing happens, no new menu, no new files in Music (I am using standard OSMC skin).

I see some errors in dmesg:

The CD is playing fine on a computer. What’s the matter?
Thanks.

I think this is currently an issue with udisks and Kodi.
You can enable Kodi’s built in disk mounting; but this may cause other problems.

I recall mentioning this to @dbmandrake but don’t think it was followed up on. Will need to re-visit after Kodi v18 is released.

Hi Sam,

thank you for your informations. Do you know what kind of specific problem could cause enabling Kodi’s built in disk mounting?

Best

Yes — please refer to the previously linked post.

Hi Sam,

from what I read, it seems that the related issue is that Kodi could close a disc tray immediately after ejecting it. If I am right, it is worth a try. Thanks.

Where is advancedsettings.xml?

.kodi/userdata/ if it isn’t there already you would need to create it.

I had a bit of a play with this entry in advancedsettings:
The ‘Play Disc’ appears for both audio CD and video DVD, but I had problems
a) ejecting disk (often ignored)
b) playing DVD (sad smiley and kodi restart often)
This probably comes in the fiddly solution needed category - doesn’t worry me much, as I don;t use the facility very often.
I can provide logs if so desired.

I had the sad smiley when I was powering the CD reader from RasPi. Then I bought a USB HUB (4A) and now it plays DVD with no “sadness”

@sam_nazarko: I didn’t realize that I had a “Play Disc” entry around the bottom of the menu! Pressing that item, the CD starts playing! The only issue is that it starts from the first track and I don’t know how to view the track list on the screen…

Unfortunately I don’t have that optionm as I’ve been using a powered hub all along
