External Hard drive shows up as read-only but not in Windows

I noticed that the past month or so I haven’t had any of my auto recordings being made. I tried recording shows manually by hitting the record button and it would start the recording and then instantly delete the recording. After looking into it, I saw in my log (with my limited knowledge) that the external hard drive I use for my recordings is somehow read-only.

The last time I know that this hard drive was accepting new recordings was before I took it off the Vero and placed it on my Windows machine so I could back up all the recordings I’ve made (about a month ago). I didn’t notice anything weird at the time. I shut down the Vero before removing the hard drive (and also before replacing it on the Vero) and I believe I safely removed it from the Windows machine.

To troubleshoot, I tried copying a file to the hard drive while attached to the Vero and it wouldn’t accept it in any folder of the hard drive. I did this using Windows explorer over the network. The message I got was that the drive is read-only.

So I removed the hard drive from the Vero and attached it to my Windows machine. When I tried the hard drive on my Windows machine, I have no problems moving files to the hard drive. It is no longer read-only. I have no idea what is going on here.

Here is my log of when I tried to manually record a show:

You could try to run a check disk while it is connected to Windows, then safely remove and see if it works on the Vero.
if not the next steps would require some ssh/command line options. Let me know if you are fine with that then I talk you through

Well that seemed to do the trick. Did a check disk and then plugged it in. No longer read-only. Very cool.

Thanks,
