Maybe the keyboard is broken 
Then it will likely take less time to simply re-install fresh…
It’s funny my newest raspberry pi 3 is doing the same and it’s only 3 months old… I haven’t tried with the keyboard…

Than you really should watch out how you secure (passwords and firewalls) your device and also what you install on it
Yes, password not accepted. Means someone or something must have changed it. So suggest to do a clean reinstall and then secure your box
