Frame rate switching issue

Hi. While playing a 4k film from my library, if I open the tv guide and select a live tv channel, the frame rate doesn’t switch to 50hz as it should for uk tv. Instead, live tv continues to play at 4k resolution and 24hz. If I stop the channel then start it again, it plays correctly

I’ve tried changing adjust display refresh rate from on start/ stop to always (captured in log) with same results paste.osmc.tv/jeyiqabeja

Tried whitelisting both display modes. Live tv still continues to play at 4k 24hz, but after a second, the screen refreshes back to the correct resolution and refresh rate.

I shouldn’t need to use whitelists in order for this to work, right?

This is a bug that will be fixed in the next update.

Great! Was this a known bug?

ps. To test before uploading logs, I downloaded a fresh November firmware via Mac installer, but August was installed instead. Had to update to November firmware via my osmc. Just in case it’s useful to know.

Some of us knew it  When the next update drops (“real soon now”), grateful if you could check to see if it’s fixed for you.

A bit more FEL testing and then this will be out and solved.

In case this is related, thought I’d ask prior to this fix being released…

With frame rate switching set to on start/stop, when playing a 4k film and backing out to browse either the tv guide or my film library, I expect navigation to be less smooth than usual as the display is running at 24hz.

With that said, I’m experiencing a significant amount of lag when navigating (more so on Artic Fuse 3 - a heavier skin - but also noticeable to a slightly lesser degree with osmc skin). Is this just asking a lot of Vero V, given that I’m comparing performance to an Ugoos Am6b+? Or could this also be tied into the issue I originally posted about (i.e. connected to 24hz in some way)?

Reason I ask is, if I set frame rate switching to ‘always’ on Vero, browsing tv guide/ film library while playing a 4k film feels really snappy, which makes me think this isn’t necessarily a horse power issue with Vero.

Correct, if you run the GUI at 24Hz, it’s going to be slower.
You are effectively clamping frame rate performance to 24Hz.

Thanks Sam. Figured this out. I wasn’t considering the fact that the whole gui is running at 4k when playing a 4k film (with adjust display refresh rate set to on start/stop) whilst navigating tv guide/menus. This is what’s been causing the issue.

Odroid/Ugoos I’ve been using for the last few years handle this comfortably, which is what threw me.

Setting adjust display refresh rate to ‘always’ solves the problem.

So Vero isn’t as powerful as these other boxes, but I’d choose it over the others every time, specifically for its superior live tv performance. Thanks.

Quick update…since the latest firmware update, performance is massively improved when browsing tv guide with 4k content playing in background. Not so good when browsing library but that’s ok

I’m now perfectly happy setting adjust refresh rate to ‘on start/stop’ instead of ‘always’ (in order to mitigate the lag I was experiencing). Nice job!

Glad to hear this
