Freezing/Crashing after last update

I did not change my WiFi environment after the update to Kodi 21. Before the update the freeze was only scarce. After it, it constantly freezes.

Streaming the same, only now with the ethernet cable did not freeze until now. At least more than an hour without freezing…

So it indeed seems to be WiFi related.

There are now no WiFi changes between this release and the last (everything has been rolled back). Can you try play something that you definitely watched before?

Re-played an old movie (via WiFi) and it also freezes within minutes.
I am using a Deco mesh WiFi network.

I can’t upload the latest logs. I get the error message from the OSMC app that the log files are too large.

I’m not sure they will provide much information.
I am actively working on the WiFi issue, but it is unclear to me why this has only just become an issue for you.

So this was a movie you have previously watched on this device?

Can you try this:

  • Boot Vero and before playback, log in to SSH
  • Run sudo dmesg -w and start playback. After the crash post the output here.

Hello I have the same issue still here is the dmseg message

after that error it was able to keep playing
but after a couple of minutes it crashed and the ssh died before outputting any error logs

and there is a video of what happens

after a while the video starts again here is the error from dmseg

Interesting. Do you ever get a hard freeze or are you able to keep the SSH connection?

I did not have any more issues yesterday after switching to ethernet, but only used it for maybe 2-3 more hours afterwards, so could be just lucky.
Updated to the new version now and switched back to wifi. Let’s see how it goes. Will keep you posted

the ssh disconnected when it freezed and the device was not pinging back. what I did was ping the device with -t flag to be able to check when it revived. After a while it pinged back. I rushed to the tv and saw the video was playing and logged back into the device via ssh and pasted the logs you saw.

Ok I think I have the logs that will serve the purpose

https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/rbnsatwdzcjuy13c7moow/all_logs.log?rlkey=q2pov5x8gqxom4z3jnwcb6gdk&dl=0

Check from Aug 28 10:45:35 that is when the video freezes and at Aug 28 11:01:40 it revives

I am experiencing the same issue. The video and audio freeze while watching content. This started after the update I performed today at 6 AM (GMT+2). The device is now unusable. Should I consider returning it to the seller?

This will be resolved with an update.

Hi

Thanks for your patience.

Please go to My OSMC → Updates → Manual Controls and select check for updates now and install the update when prompted and let me know how it goes. It may take a few minutes for the update to reach you.

Thanks

Sam

Ok Sam

I’ve updated, tried it, and it works.
the download speed’s are great now.
also while playing I pinged the machine continuously and there where no hiccups and no errors in journactl (dmesg)

thank you

Agus

Cheers and sorry about this inconvenience. Thanks for the logs and prompt testing.

Just updated and looks better for me as well, have been able to watch TV for over an hour with no freezes or skips, thanks!

Sorry I was not able to reply anymore as I reached my quotum of daily posts for this forum.

Updated and played my test movie for about 1 hour without issues. Then I got a black screen, though the system was still responsive. Restarted the movie, but got stuttering playback. Only after rebooting everything worked fine again.

I am not sure if this was a related issue. I will see if this happens again. Thanks for your hard work.
