Customers who place orders from USA, Australia and the rest of the world will usually not have to pay any import duties or tax (*)
Just so you know, I was notified by Portugal customs that the package (of an OSMV V) was being held and I needed to provide the invoice, declare the type of item (find a classification code for it - I went with 85219000 - video recorders players). After several days delay, I was then charged €77 to release it (€17 customs, €46 VAT, €14 admin)
I’m not very happy about this, in particular the charge for the VAT, as if I’m going to have to pay VAT here I should have been charged a no-VAT price from OSMC shop.
Anyway, it’s done now, but just so other’s are aware, in “will usually not have to pay any import duties or tax”, take the “usually” seriously!
We intend to implement a DDP solution for some destinations soon.
Your invoice sounds very high considering the actual cost of Vero V. I would query that with customs as usually delivery to Portugal only incurs a few euros due to preferential trade status with the EU.
The invoice and harmonisation code are submitted digitally and a paper copy is attached to the parcel, so I’m not sure why you were asked for this information.
If you are not intending to charge VAT on orders outside of the UK, then that’s not working. I paid £149 (less discount for having Vero 4k), which is the price that includes 20% UK VAT, unless I am very much mistaken.
Given that customs considered it to not have VAT included, at 23% on £149 that’s €39. The remaining €38 is customs and admin fees. If that’s preferential I’d hate to see what they do for a country they don’t like!
I don’t know why I was asked for this information, but my choices were to provide them with an invoice and info, or have it returned to you.
No – we don’t charge VAT for ex UK orders and you should see no VAT breakdown on your invoice.
The price is kept the same for consistency – international shipping is obviously significantly more expensive than shipping in the UK, so we keep a fixed price for Vero V.
My suggestion is to contact the postal service and ask them to check the invoice and use the harmonisation code and preferential status agreements that are outlined on the package.
CTT preferential price is 8.50 euros currently at time of writing, but it can obviously vary due to exchange rate. I’d really get in touch with them.
Ah, OK, I understand. In that case it makes sense that they would charge VAT on it. Someone has to pay the VAT, and if it wasn’t paid in the UK, it will be here.
I realise this is only one data point; if I was just unlucky and other recent customers in Europe are reporting successful delivery with no, or minimal fees then fine.
