Hi,
I’m having a problem getting remotes to work with gpio IR receivers. I’ve tried many suggestions in these forums, but nothing has worked so far. Here’s my setup:
Raspberry Pi 3
OSMC 2016.10-1
TSOP4838 wired like this:
From a fresh install, I enabled gpio support in MyOSMC/Pi Config/Hardware Support.
The gpio_in_pin is set to 18.
I selected the rc6 remote in MyOSMC/Pi Config/Remotes
I stopped the llircd process and started mode2 with the following commands:
sudo systemctl stop lircd_helper@lirc0
mode2 –d /dev/lirc0
When pressing buttons on the remote there is no output. I’ve used remotes that work with other devices and used three different TSOP’s. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
VAre you sure it’s a 3.3v device or is it a 5v device? I ask because some have a wide input range and can work with 3.3v or 5v but some only work with 5v
It’s the same device number, and the same wiring that I use successfully
Derek
jb2cool - Thanks for the response. I have tested using the 5v pin with the same results. When I did that I was testing several different possible fixes, so my steps were not JUST those steps above. I will retest following my steps above, later tonight possibly.
Thanks again.
So I tested the 5v pin following my steps above with the same results. I also verified the 3 and 5 v pins actually put out 3 and 5 volts. Any other ideas?
Thanks
Check the part number of the TSOPs it is laser etched on the top of the plastic part, you’ll need to magnify it to read it
Dilligaf - Thanks for the response. Yes, I’ve checked the etched part number and they are 4838’s.
I don’t anticipate any surprises, but when I have time I’m going to setup a test with an led to verify the signal from the 4838. I’m sure it’s fine, just ruling things out.
I really appreciate any input.
Your Pi may be defective, you can try using a different gpio pin, you can change it in MyOsmc. I’m not 100% sure which other pins are capable of supporting an IR receiver, it will require some research.
