HDR10+ material not playing with Kodi 21.2 (90% of the time) but will with 20.2

OK, logs with the Vero V connected directly to the panasonic TV. Played guardians first and then Dune 2 (Dolby vision) second. Both HDR10+ as before. Both played fine (but both only tried once).

  1. with force YUV422: https://paste.osmc.tv/useveqazaf
  2. without force YUV422: https://paste.osmc.tv/nuwenuqavu

INterestingly, and it may be the first time I’m noticing this, the “dolby atmos” flag/text showed on the tv along with the video input for both, but neither time did the “Dolby Vision” flag show for the Dune 2 track. Which the tv does when showing a dolby vision netflix track for instance. So it should have come up from the Dune 2 track.

The result of cat /sys/class/amhdmitx/amhdmitx0/edid when connected through the denon not playing any track. 4K/8K signal format set to “Enhanced” (default) TV set to “mode 2”, also default.

No. Your TV does not do TV-led DV:

Vero cannot do player-led DV and output LLDV so it will process the HDR10+ instead. That Dolby Vision Cap is the same whether you are connected direct to TV or to the AVR so there’s no confusion there.

Yup. That’s what we saw in the first log you posted, but not in the one from Vero 4k.

Logs through Vero V to denon with Force YUV422 ON, same settings as above. THis time neither track would play when tried 2 times each, then followed with a 4K non HDR10+ (but only HDR10) track last which did play.

All these above are input 2 on the TV which is the ARC input (output?? whatever) . Will try with 1.

Thanks, but it’s the Denon which seems to be choking here, not the Panny. Still trying without ARC might be worth a go.

Sorry, I’ve been traveling a bit and haven’t followed up.

I saw the other posts about updating using the staging repository. Tried that. No help.

Saw posts from Sam suggesting changing refresh rate from “Start/Stop” to “Always”. Tried that. No help.

The problem seems only to occur on TV episodes. I have yet to find a movie - 1080p or 4K, HDR or SDR - that causes this. And it’s only certain TV episodes that do it. For example, I have “Star Trek Deep Space Nine” that I ripped from my DVD collection. That plays fine. However, I partake of the “DS9 Upscale Project” where they produce 1080p and 4K AI upscales of this series. None of these will play on the Vero V. I get similar results for rips of “The Grand Tour” and “Clarkson’s Farm” but only the 4K rips. The 1080p rips play fine.

I tried re-encoding the offending files using Handbrake. No matter what I try, it won’t play. The “Grand Tour” issues are particularly vexing, as all of these used to play just fine on the Vero V.

UPDATE: For reference, I have a Marantz SR5012 AVR and Samsung TV. If I bypass the Marantz, these seem to play. So it seems to be something the Vero is passing to the AVR that it doesn’t like. Resolution? Refresh rate? Aspect ratio? I have no idea. When it fails, I get audio but no picture. The Marantz displays the “No Source” warning screen.

Here’s the MediaInfo data on the DS9 file I’m trying to play:

First time I’ve come across a 4k file with 4:3 aspect ratio. I couldn’t see where to obtain those upscales. Can you point me to that or upload a sample somewhere? Are the other TV rips strange aspect ratios? Grand Tour and Clarkson’s Farm can’t be 4:3, surely?

Agreed. I don’t think The Prisoner has been restored in 4K just yet…

Further to my issue, If I set the TV to static HDR (not dynamic), the vero picks up on this and plays these problem titles as basic HDR10 no issues at all. (no “+”)

Further: Panasonic TV HDR settings.

During a blank screen and audio episode, I can make it play (DURING ACTUAL PLAYBACK) by nothing more than turning the TV HDR setting from “dynamic” to “static” (which immediately shows the video and audio in HDR10 only), and then back to “Dynamic” which will then show the HDR10+ logo on the TV and continue with HDR10+ playback.

Interesting. Any chance of a log when that happens?

most certainly: https://paste.osmc.tv/tabureyuke

I thought the august update had sorted this, restarted and played both tracks couple times, then just wouldn’t play either. So, no…

The August update fixed some others’ issues but not yours, I’m afraid. We still don’t know what the problem is but will work on it.

There may be some clues to that here No Dolby Atmos with Vero V - #8 by pharcycle

you answered that above with the TV not being able to do player based DV or something along those lines. No issue with atmos for me.
