Because the problem was never solved … and since I run into the same ‘problem’ again … I thought let’s revive it with hopefully a better solution then to run it as ‘root’.
But I could off course start a new thread with links to the old ones … what you want
@HarryL I heard from @Toast that you also have a lightpack connected through USB, do you have Hyperion running as root or as the user osmc by any change?

as i remember hyperion can only on as root in most cases, if you want everything to work ;-).
But yes i run it as root.

Good to hear, since @toast runs it as osmc, but he uses gpio.
I think @sam_nazarko changed the permissions on those gpio files, that’s why it is possible.
Toast bought an usb lightpack, maybe he can spot some differences and make those changes
