HEVC issues with Vero4K+

You have installed an experimental development repository.

If you don’t want those updates, you can either de-activate that repository; or if unhappy with the current status, reinstall from Download - OSMC.

Sam

I’ll reinstall and report.

I’m having the exact same issue, won’t play any 4K file properly.

please provide debug enabled logs if you want this to be investigated

I have reinstalled. Seemed ok. But after settings backup restore, it is messy again.
I will try to reinstall and rebuild from scratch hoping for this to solve this issue.
In the meantime, my lastest logs : https://paste.osmc.tv/odenizihab

Still the same problem even with a clean reinstall and no settings restore :frowning:

I noticed something during playback with debug infos: while vq is > 60% all the time when everything is fine, when display does not work normally it is at 0%.
I don’t know what this means but maybe it can help you.

I have done other tests:

  • for a real cold boot, I have to unplug everything (ethernet, hdmi AND power supply). Otherwise, something still keeps powered
  • i have (cold) booted without network and plugged it just before browsing. I have accessed a HEVC video through ‘Videos’ and not through the Library. This way, it works fine. I have my previous settings restored as well.

Please try run these commands:

wget https://collab.osmc.tv/s/hjdncbUBc93IJG2/download -O secureos.deb
sudo dpkg -i secureos.deb
shutdown -h now

Now remove power from the device and plug it back in after seeing a red light on the front of your device.

Cheers

Sam

Thanks. I’m still having some issues reproducing the issue here.

It seems hit and miss.

Could you try this:

sudo wget "https://github.com/osmc/osmc/raw/6bbc2abb868fc2a1790c2412824b0813c2e637fd/package/vero3-userland-osmc/files/lib/firmware/osmc/video/video_ucode.bin" -O /lib/firmware/osmc/video/video_ucode.bin
sudo shutdown -h now

and see if this helps?

This isn’t meant to be a permanent fix – or even a guaranteed fix. I’m just trying to narrow down a couple of things.

Many thanks,

Sam

After a full cold reboot, HEVC is fine. I have to test a bit more with cold and warm reboots.

Logs here : https://paste.osmc.tv/igiyecisig

After some tests (warm and cold reboots), it seems fine

Please keep testing

Thanks

Sam

Will do this evening

After a dozen of reboots (cold, warm, through command line and through Kodi interface), my problem seems to have disappeared
HEVC and x264 are ok, whatever the bitrate.
I don’t know if it is a permanent fix but it sure is a step in the right direction.

I will make a more permanent solution later tonight.

Does this mean you’ll let us know when the fix is coming?
Haven’t installed the update myself just yet… I’ll try and update my Vero4K ASAP. If I come across anything of a bug I’ll provide logs and follow some of the troubleshooting posted here.

Hi

Hopefully the issue is now fixed.

I’d appreciate it if you could test this and provide feedback before we potentially release this as an update to other users. To test this update:

  1. Login via the command line
  2. Run the following command to add the staging repository:
    echo 'deb http://apt.osmc.tv buster-devel main' | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/osmc-devel.list
  3. Run the following commands to update: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade && reboot
  4. Your system should have have received the update.

Please see if the issue is resolved.

I also recommend you remove /etc/apt/sources.list.d/osmc-devel.list after updating.

I’d also recommend you deactivate the staging repository. You can do so with the following command:
sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/osmc-devel.list.

Please note that we will automatically disable this update channel after 14 days on your device in case you forget to do so to ensure that your system reverts to the stable update channel.

I applied the patch and so far so good. With two warm reboots.
More tests this evening.

See command line output below:

osmc@osmc-Ulysses:~$ echo 'deb http://apt.osmc.tv buster-devel main' | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/osmc-devel.list
deb http://apt.osmc.tv buster-devel main

This can be fixed by adding the below option:

sudo apt-get update --allow-releaseinfo-change && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade && reboot
