Hi, want to use external USB for cache and media

Hi, I was previously using OpenELEC and now want to use OSMC! I want to use an external 500G USB HD for caching and optionally some external media. With OpenELEC it was a little bit of a hassle to do this, you had to edit a boot config file or something. Also it needed to be formatted EXT3 IIRC.

Just want to know how to go about this in OSMC. I’ve searched the forums, but can’t find exactly what I need, and most external HDD problems are people who need powered hubs (I have one  Any help would be appreciated!

What exactly do you mean by caching?

When Kodi addons and such cache to disk…?

Why?

Is it possible to do what’s asked in the OP? Thanks  Oh and what file systems are supported? Can I use NTFS or ExFAT or…?

You are better to use exFAT.

You could move (then symlink) the whole /home/osmc/.kodi directory to your external drive.

You will not see a performance gain from doing this.

Yeah wasn’t looking for a performance gain, just more space. Thanks!
