Hi10P and Vero V?

Is anyone aware of the status of Hi10P (hardware) support on a Vero V? I tried watching a x264-Hi10P version of Demon Slayer – yay! – but already got over 60 frame drops and over 100 frame skips in the title sequence alone?

It did not seem related to buffering / network or an abnormally high bitrate (13.1 Mb/s)… So it made me wonder if Vero V is trying to handle a Hi10P via software decoding on the CPU, or has some other limitations?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, and am happy to share more info if that helps!

Vero V does not support HW decoding of h264 10 bits. SW decoding usually works up to 720p.

thank you Grahamh, that is helpful! Am I guessing currectly that no Hi10P support is to be expected in the future? (e.g., due to no hardware decoder being available and/or the world moving towards 10-bit HEVC (H.265) and related codecs?)

It’s more likely CPU speed on ‘Kodi boxes’ will get fast enough to play Hi10P 1080p in software. HEVC has always been a better bet for 10-bit video.

ok! thank you!

Graham is right – one day a Vero will support it, but it won’t be through hardware decoding.
