Although, as far as I can tell the fix rolled out seems in part to have been to simply revert to the original overlay file names including the -overlay extension.

Can we possibly chalk this one up to “If it ain’t broke…”? :wink:

Sorry, I was unaware of the stuttering problem. I had no troubles here with a Pi3 / Hifiberry DigI+ setup feeding a Cambridge DacMagic Plus via Toslink.

Still not sure why audio stuttering would require renaming all the overlay files, though. But then, my understanding of Linux programming falls into the category of diddly-squat. :blush:

We changed how we compile overlays, so that we can support more hardware automatically, as the upstream kernel introduces it, instead of having to implicitly declare each overlay to be compiled. The changes made to overlay compilation did not specifically concern HifiBerry.

i’m on a rbp1 B and this does not work for me. hifiberry dac+ still not working.
so i decided to reinstall 4.4.13-1 and hifiberry still not working.
if i have dtoverlay=iqaudio-dacplus in config.txt dmesg shows:

4.4.13-1 is a kernel with this problem, why did you think reinstalling it would help ? 4.4.13-5 is the latest kernel where this problem has been fixed.

So please update to 4.4.13-5 and put your dtoverlay line back to what it originally was and it should work. If not please provide a debug log taken from the latest kernel - the results from an old known bad kernel are no use to us.

i checked config.txt again and there was a wrong entry for dtoverlay

changed
dtoverlay=iqaudio-dacplus-overlay
to
dtoverlay=hifiberry-dacplus-overlay
and it works again

Never mind, in the setting somehow the digi was only selected for mp3 audio while for movies hdmi was selected.

I had the whole thing working since january (with the change to config.txt like everybody)
I made a clean install yesterday for reasons and I cannot make it work again :frowning:

here is what I did on the last version of osmc :

Well I had to “Disable GPIO LIRC remote support” in Pi confing and now it’s working.

I don’t know what steps I did where useful or not (modules, asound.conf)

I hope it can help others, maybe a step by step for new install could be useful ?

Using upgrade will eventually cause problems. ALWAYS use dist-upgrade.

I think that you have possibly followed a couple of strange guides that are either outdated or intended for other Pi distributions.

If you enable the DAC via My OSMC → Pi Config, the GPIO LIRC remote support will be disabled for you automatically and this won’t be an issue. But it seems you set this up manually by editing config.txt.

This is not necessary. By editing config.txt and adding a dtoverlay=, you are getting the Raspberry Pi to load a Device Tree, which will handle module loading for you.

Your system is hosed if you ran this. You need to perform a reinstall. It may seem fine for now but there is now no guarantee future updates will work properly. We will try and make this more clear in the future as it seems this bad piece of advice is spreading.
