How to safely stop Vero and external HDD after freeze

So my Vero 4k+ just froze again after playing a huge 4k HDR (25GB 1hr long) file and I could not do anything… I could not ping it, so can’t SSH, the device did not respond to my remote, everything froze, I waited for a while and it did not shut down. So I unplugged the external HDD from Vero and cut Vero power plug as nothing else worked. My data on external HDD got corrupted and I had to run fsck /dev/sda1 and reboot the device.

What am I supposed to do in these scenarios? Is there a safer way to kill the Vero when I can’t access it?

If you can’t SSH in there isn’t much that you can do other than pull the power. You could try connecting a keyboard and see if it will respond to that.

But the hang just should not be happening. I have lots of 4K HDR titles and most of them are far larger than 25G. Most are around 40-50G, some as large as 70G and I’ve never had a hang like that where I had to pull power.

Something tells me pulling the power from Vero is a better way of shutting down your HDD than unplugging the USB.

If possible, wait for the HDD light to stop flashing.

I pulled the plug the previous time this happened and it got corrupted as well.

It shouldn’t be happening, but unfortunately it has happened twice in the last 3 weeks and I can’t help it.

I also have a bunch of 50-70GB files that work perfectly. After the fix and reboot the file that froze my Vero also worked without a problem.

Is the drive you are using self-powered, or using a powered USB hub?

It is self powered; it uses it’s own power socket.

What file system is the drive formatted as? Does it happen to be exFAT and you transfer files to it from a Windows PC?

It’s formatted as ext4 and I only use it with my Vero, I never really unplug it and use it elsewhere. I never transfer files to it as I only use transmission to download everything.

Are you running transmission when the lock-ups occur?

Please provide full logs (not debug).
