[HowTo] Installing RetroPie alongside OSMC RC (the easy way)

Looks like emulationstation was not even installed.
You did choose binaries installation the first time the retropiesetup pops up right?

I haven’t seen anything to choose from. Only the “are you sure you want to install” and the “do you want to create a shortcut” while running the script via SSH.

Thanks for your help !

I have try to remove libsdl2 libsdl1.2debian and run the script again, without success.

(I use RC2 and I don’t get binaries installation choice)

When I got some time, I will try crester fixes and to report first error after removing libsdl2 libsdl1.2debian

It may be a change in their script (again…)
I’ll have to investigate. Please give me a day or two…

Not a problem. Thanks for your work, very appreciated!!!

Just tried it in clean RC2 install and the script works perfectly if you run the following command before executing the script:
wget http://archive.raspbian.org/raspbian.public.key -O - | sudo apt-key add -

If you have previously tried to run the script you need to also run this:
sudo apt-get remove stella libsdl1.2-dev libsdl2-2.0-0

Ah, I see. So they now need a key to accept the repository. Worked before.
Will add that to the script.

Thanks

Fixed!

Happy installing again.

Hi, could u fix this also.

This should only occur, when the raspbian jessie repositories were not mounted, as it tries to install normal debian instead.
I’ll see what I can do.
I also fixed the shortcut creation. It should work now.

Fixed the missing “-y”

Thanks for noticing!

It works on my side.

Thank you !

Everything’s working fine !
Thanks :sunglasses:

Hi,

thanks very much for this superb script!

I installed it, configured OSMC to start retroPie with a ‘,’-press in Yatse and had already a lot of fun  Even my LED-lights are working with the emulators (hyperion).

My question is, how to route the audio to the HDMI port? Video is working great, but no sound. I already edited the boot.config to force-hdmi, but no luck with this change. Does anyone have an idea what I can try without disabling audio (passthrough) in OSMC?
BTW: My main target is to emulate a SNES.

Best regards
Chris

Audio is played by hdmi by default here.
If you start the retropie setup again from commandline, I think there is an option to direct the audio output for it.
Please refer to the retropie documentation.

Hi @mcobit, thanks for your great work! I try your script last night and I notice some errors, all of them was related to libsdl and at the end of “Retropie Binary Installation” I get few messages about samba and samba-bin can’t be installed. Is it something normal or there is some problem? Thanks!

The sdl stuff is fixed later in the script after the retropie installation and the samba server cannot be installed as osmc blocks the installation because they ship their own I guess.
Don’t worry, should be fine.

Thanks very much.
Restarted the script, updated all emulators and used the audio-setting in the installer. Now I also have sound!

Best regards
Chris

Hello, first of all thank you for the script, it installed retropie without issues and emulators works fine, but i have a problem. I use the audio jack for sound, it works well in kodi, but i have no sound in emulators. I’ve tried to run retropie setup, audio settings and choosed Headphones -3.5mm jack but i still have no sound. If i select Mixer -adjust ouput volume it does nothing and returns to the same menu. When i exit emulationstation i have sound again in kodi. Don’t know what to try, any ideas?
Thanks for your time!

Any of you has Rom Collection Browser working? I think that this is the next step.

I readed some posts in the old forum, but I can’t conclude if the people can run or not retroarch with RCB addon. One posts indicates that rom launching works, but resolution is incorrect.

I still don’t get what’s the advantage of using rcb…
You have to exit kodi to play emulators, so you will always need to rebrowse your rom collextion with rcb and then select the next rom. You have an artwork and description scraper in emulationstation, too.

So why exactly would you want to use rcb instead of a simple shortcut to launch emulationtation? I just don’t get it.
