[HowTo] RetroPie and OSMC: Retrosmc - Retrogaming on OSMC

Hi,
it’s not working for me. I use the lastest osmc release (march 2016) and when i launch the program i have a black screen with a new mouse pointer (green) then a few second after that i return to a freezing osmc screen, freezing for about half a minute. There is also some little noise.
there was no error during the installation (made via ssh without sudo).
What should i do ?

many thanks !

Do you run hyperion or vnc server? If so, turn it off first.

Same for me mcobit with the new release & fresh install of OSMC, no hyperion, no VNC server, anything.

Fresh install & run Retrosmc script to install Retropie on OSMC, when the setup is finished, RPi reboots & when u try launch Retropie via script you get the emulestation screen 1 sec. and blackscreen until mediacenter start again.

Do not reboot from the RetroPie-Setup script!
I say that in the first post.
Choose cancel after the setup finished. Then you see a screen stating “Enjoy your retrosmc installation”. Choose OK. Then install the launcher addon and THEN reboot or restart Kodi.

Have you tried using the launcher addon?

Edit: what’s in emulationstation log file?

I installed “retrosmc” using your scipt and it all went perfectly fine. However, i’m unable to launch retropie, due to the launcher addon not showing up. This is probably due to the fact that i’m on KODI 17 (krypton).
Is there a way for me to create the shortcut manually? Can you point me to a way to launch retropi from within kodi?

Read the first post again please.

tnx, missed it. Got it to work now :slightly_smiling:

Hi, followed the original install and have installed the launcher addon. But it didn’t show. Have managed to bodge it on by copying the applicable files files into the land add-on folder using ftp. Shows now in programs. Via ssh all has installed fine and completes with no errors. Now the add-on shows but doesn’t do anything. Using the install / remove add-on options iin the installer complete but appear to have no effect. Using an rpi 3, March osmc build all rubbing from local card. Any suggestions appreciated. This is a fresh osmc build. Nothing special bar a few add-ons for videos.

All your work is ace! Anything you can help with would be massively appreciated as fairly Linux au fait as work in IT but struggling on this!

Is there a folder called scripts in ~/RetroPie/ ?
What scripts are in there?

Also could you please provide the contents from ~/.emulationstation/es_log.txt ?

Also try to start from commandline via ssh:

sh /home/RetroPie/scripts/retropie.sh

After installing retrosmc hyperion is not working properly… leds are working with pi video source but the usb video grabber does not work, there is no /dev/video0 found…

I don’t have a es_log.txt file in there, just a es_input.cfg file, I have triple checked I am not going to the wrong directory!

Running the script generates: ‘sh: 0: Can’t open /home/RetroPie/scripts/retropie.sh’

Argh what am I missing?!

I have completely gone through and reinstalled using the instructions… Haven’t wiped the OSMC install to try again.

It’s installed on a 32GB card, OSMC isn’t, but it isn’t fussy about card sizes presumably?

Thanks again advance for your time, it is invaluable.

Are there any files in /home/osmc/RetroPie/scripts
?
I have posted a wrong path. Sorry.

Try
sh /home/osmc/RetroPie/scripts/retropie.sh

It should not do anything to your videograbber.
Have you tried restarting and/or reconnecting the dongle?

What is the output from dmesg after inserting the dongle?

I have in there (I took a wild guess afterwards that was the directory you were going for!)

retropie.sh
retropie_watchdog.sh
retrosmc-config.cfg

If I run the command:
sh /home/osmc/RetroPie/scripts/retropie.sh

I generate no errors, but nothing happens on the TV/in OSMC…

Time to wipe the card and start again?

Any Errors when you just type
emulationstation
on commandline with kodi shut down?

I tried everything, reboot, reinstall hyperion, dis/re-connect the dongle, but I can not make it work. Just before installing it was working flawlessly…
With dmesg I can see in USB port my Fukushai grabber but there is no /dev/video0…

Thanks in anyway…

So what is the output of dmesg after inserting the dongle?

Doing it via ssh I get a blank screen in the window, think I am being daft here, on the TV itself, so to speak, if I attempt to exit kodi, it just loops and loads back in, is there a command to kill kodi I am missing? When I do it via SSH nothing happens on the TV…

I have also tried, on a separate card / pi2 to have a fresh install.

When running the first step in the above, I get this:

osmc@cblbosmc:~$ wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/mcobit/retrosmc/master/install-retrosmc

osmc@cblbosmc:~$

This is the same as I got doing the Pi3.

I browsed to the GitHub page and FTP’s the install script to the applicable place and ran it and followed the rest of the install. Don’t know if this was worth mentioning? As long as the first script runs and the install goes fine I am assuming it won’t make any odds?

Press escape on the keyboard after quitting kodi.
