Has anyone else noticed interference with the supplied remote on the Vero V?
For a while now I have been experiencing the vero acting up. randomly pausing show, fast forwarding / rewinding. Jumping through the library screens.
I has taken far too long to I hope figure out what’s causing it, but it appears to be when my Pixel phone is placed near the remote that it can happen. It does not always happen but now that i am more aware, it does seem to only happen when phone is next to remote.
I don’t remember ever seeing such a report with any version OSMC remote and I don’t really see how this could be possible. Is it possible your phone is sending IR commands? If you place a piece of cardboard or other opaque object across the front of the Vero to block the IR receiver does it still happen?
Is there a possibility that someone in your house is having a bit of fun with you and using the web interface or a phone app to control your box? If this is the case you can disable or password protect the web interface to prevent this.
It is an odd one definitely not anyone in the house, I had originally thought someone outside but the jumping around playing videos is so erratic or the main UI so fast I can not see it being possible to replicate by a rogue remote.
Phone is a Pixel 8a so no IR on it Just supports Wifi (always on - wifi 6 network), Bluetooth (sometimes on) and NFC (never on).
Phone would be right beside the remote or with in an inch or two or very odd occasion resting on the remote but not in a way that could press buttons.. Remote’s IR rarely pointing directly at the Vero V when this happens, usually roughly perpendicular to the box
At the moment I am trying to keep the two away from each other (either side of me) for a reasonable period of time that I can hopefully not see the issue happening again. If that’s the case I’ll do some more playing around to see if I can figure out if the phone is somehow triggering it
I also use a Google Pixel 8a (the 256GB version) and my OSMC remote of a Vero V is near the phone every evening without any symptoms so far. Do you have any Bluetooth devices active and paired with your phone while these arbitrary actions in the GUI of the mediacenter?
How often do you see this phenomenon?
In case it happens often (every day), you could collect and provide debug logs and at least we could try to find out whether we see let’s call it ‘ghost’ key presses or other strange activities. Let us know if you need instructions how to do that.
I have a similar issue, the supplied remote for the vero V can go into odd behaviour if its within a foot or so of my laptop or Moto phone, not got the time or inclination to set up test gear to see if there’s either overlap or interference because I presume its Bluetooth causing it, the remote doesn’t go haywire as such but it does often have a delay or it can jump, for example, going through a menu it will take a few remote presses to do anything then all of a sudden it will jump through the menu on the screen.
I say bluetooth because my TV has it for the LG keyboard, cant find a setting to turn it off, my vero is behind th tv so part of the solution was to move the vero to the left side of the TV, that cuts out most of the issue, the rest can be mitigated by moving the phone and turning off the laptops Bluetooth.
Originally I thought it was the TV remote and CEC but that doesn’t seem to be the cause in my case and strange as it seems , paring a Bluetooth keyboard to the Vero V reduces the problem considerably, well in my case it does. This can be reproduced with both my new Vero V’s and the same LG TV, I also use a smaller LG Tv in a bedroom and the problem doesn’t show up with that.
Had similar problems with my Vero 4k so rather than send Sam on a wild goose chase I just deal with it as I stated above, disable Bluetooth on the laptop, move the infernal phone and move the Vero box a little.
The Vero 4k is now in the kitchen and my wife’s phone acts as a jammer for the remote and its dongle, move the phone a few feet away and all is good again, its not really abnormal with Bluetooth and wireless for there to be some minor issues at times
Don’t know if this will be of any help but ya never know.
Further to my long post about Bluetooth, may be of interest to Sam, a piece of black card or other suitable material over the front of the Vero to block out IR may help prove if its an IR remote causing the issue, it seems crazy but I have had a remote that ate batteries because of liquid slip or body grease one of the buttons contacts where shorting at random, this was for a posh hi-fi so it took a while to trace because it was never in use at the time the TV was.
Also a remote controlled electric fire we had ( for the rubbish flame effect ) upset the vero 4K , sent it nuts, at random, it wasn’t the remote for the fire, after a lot of testing, it was the control board in the fire producing random bursts of wideband oscillation, caught on a scope, those bursts coincided with the odd Vero behaviour, the solution was a simple ferrite ring fitted to the control board harness. something to keep in mind, just because the Vero series have been manufactured to a high standard it doesn’t mean other devices have been, if its reasonably in close proximity to each other then this can and does happen, sometimes its a matter of elimination and we all know what a PITA that can be.
Experienced that today when using a wireless mouse and keyboard that kept dropping out, had my phone nearby, moved it and the mouse sprung to life. I have another wireless and mouse combo near a dimmable desk light, took a while to work out the best place for the dongle, ended uo using the dongle on an extension cable to keep it away from the lights influence.
Ours will randomly skip well forward in a movie. I keep meaning to set it up to capture a debug log but end up forgetting until the next time it happens. It is very random, but on ours I have gotten used to keeping the front of the remote hidden and it hasn’t happened while doing so… but that may just be a coincidence as it is so random and often far between occurrences.
